Yes, this is my 1001th... or is that 1001st post? At any rate, I consider it to be quite the milestone. As such, I have created three vignettes to celebrate, each depicting a scene occurring c. 1001 A.D.
First, Leif Erikson lands in America:

Second, King Stephen I receives the Holy Crown from Pope Silvester:

Lastly, the Chinese discover gunpowder:

That's quite good, especially Eriksson. Was his boat really that small?
Actually, you could probably have put this in Castle MOCs, rather than General. Looks great!

As always, good work. My favorite is King Stephen; it looks solid and Dark Age-ish.
Congrats on your 1001st post!

Excellent MOCs! All three are very well done. The Leif Erikson one made me laugh, the King and Pope is elegant, but the Chinese one is my favorite. But I was expecting an explosion before I clicked on the link. I have a feeling that the "discovery" of gunpowder was quite a shock to the inventor...

I tend to agree with Josh - I don't think the discovery of gun power was done purposely - more like some saltpetre got mixed together and BOOM!
Also, I think the king would go before the pope to be crowned, but it doesn't matter all that much.
Excellent MOCs and a great theme!

Re: 1001st Post Celebration
I really like these, my favorite is the viking one (because it's outdoors), followed by the chinese (love the building), and then the king one.

Learning French.
Say it "ESS-MICK-GIN-ISS", with a hard "G", as in "get".

Great vignettes Steve! I admit that when I first read what the second vig said, I had to look again as I thought it read "Stephen King receives the Holy Crown from Pope Silvester."
That one is probably my favourite; the steps and the stone artwork overhead look nice. I also like your little viking boat as well.

Well according to wikipedia, the Pope sent him the crown. Also, I think the king would go before the pope to be crowned, but it doesn't matter all that much.
I hadn't even thought about that. It probably would have made a better vignette, especially if you use that scared guy face. But I was expecting an explosion before I clicked on the link. I have a feeling that the "discovery" of gunpowder was quite a shock to the inventor...
How about post #10011001st.
