More official KK2 artwork!

Post by Sir Kohran »

Mike Rayhawk's posted another section of his amazing site, focusing on the images he made for the 2006 KK2 line. There's some very impressive stuff, if you ask me.

Check it out!

Great stuff!

It's funny because I saw it earlier and thought of posting about it today.

All in all, I love the new line. It has useful peices, and great colour scheme. The fact that it has three evil knights and generic knights is an added bonus.

Oh cool - thanks for the update. I've gone to his site from time to time hoping for a new installment of his artwork... one reason is because it is so cool, but another is because it sometimes offers some insight into the future plot/story developments in KK2...

In this case, we get to see how all of the sets "fit" into the new KK2 storyline... while some may not be the largest fans of the tale, I have a curious amusement towards the LEGO KK2 story, and since I fit new and old LEGO sets into my story, like to see how they do the same with their new sets.

Looks like Vladek's had some blacksmith experience as well...(?) 8)

My favorite line from Mike is this:
These two Rogue Knights help to even the odds a little bit from previous years, in which there were always five hero action figures ganging up on the single Vladek toy. That hardly seemed chivalrous!
Those evil little jellies... :D

The artwork is beautiful, and I'm glad to see how the sets fit into the story. Like Mike stated in his commentary, it would have been great to have Vladek as a pirate. But I guess this'll have to do.... Can't wait for them to come out!

That's what I thought too when I saw the white hairs in his beard, but as far as I've heard 'officially' it's only been a couple of years since the destruction of the Dark Fortress. I guess all the stress of being king made him go prematurely gray.

Or maybe the Book of Morcia is vampirically sucking the life out of him... well, probably not. But I've always thought it'd be cool if the Book turned out to have been the real villain all along. I'd love to get assigned to draw up that final boss battle of all the knights of Morcia fighting desparately against an angry book.

Actually, I wrote something not too far away from that, though the books were creatures that sucked up the readers soul and had little to do with the main plot.

Great work! Im probably saying no news as Ive said this before and everyone else does so aswell.

However, I did notice that the armies mentioned in what has been released of the lore is not shown in your pictures. Is this because they are not in this part of the story (and only in the "battle of the pass") or is it that you were not informed? This doesnt matter much really since the minifig soldiers (Karzon and Dracus) look pretty much like their leaders, and would cause confusion, or perhaps that was the reason?
(Ive checked the site word by word, but if there was something I missed please inform ;) )

Keep up the excellent work!

The idea of a bunch of brightly colored knights fighting a flying, flapping book is a bit funny, but the idea is of the book being a villian is actually really cool to me... although it does sound a bit like LOTR... still, the idea would be really cool... people would be forced to see characters like Vladek in a different way, and it would lead to all kinds of cool plot twists. :)

I saw a post over on BZPower about Battle of the Pass yesterday, which says the following:
some guy on BZPower wrote:To clarify: the Battle at the Pass set is not featured in the instructions comics, but because we knew about it earlier in the story-creation process than usual, we were able to find a place for it in the story this year.

Notice how there's a whole Rogue Knight army out in the desert, but only two members travel with Lord Vladek to find the Tower? The Battle of the Pass is where the rest are - besieging a Morcian fortress on the way to the tower to keep the Knights of Morcia occupied so they can't march out to help their king.
That post was actually the first I heard about it, so I'm feeling kind of stupid admitting that I keep seeing mentions of it everywhere but I haven't yet managed to even figure out what the Battle of the Pass is. Has everyone been talking about this on all the forums and I've just been missing it somehow? I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it's some kind of army building set finally.

I don't know if I didn't hear about Battle of the Pass earlier because it hadn't been developed yet at the time I was doing the 2006 comics, or if it's just because that set didn't figure into the specific comics I was working on.

Those are pretty neat. You really find way to bring life to such a great, but underdeveloped concept. Dangit, now I want to be a LEGO concept artist...

Wow Rayhawk, good looking stuff, once again! I'd love to see your studio.... looks like you really enjoy your work. I do like these new rouge knights, very dark and menacing.

After some search, I found these:

A small box preview(its old, so the visors are not correct):

A pic from toyfair (its the set in front)

And yes, it is seems to be sort of an army builder.

But I think the post from over there answers my question. :)
