New Knights Kingdom Sets Available in Canada!!

Post by kingkastle »

Thats right folks the new Knights Kindom sets should be available at Toys R' Us's country wide. Just happened to be checking out my local Lego store and what do ya know there they were. Picked up one of each set. Pics should be available soon.

Lets start with the smallest of them, 8821 Rogue Knights Battleship:

3.5/5
Small yet effective set made up of a nice FF style ship and simple dock with catapault. Colour scheme works well even if the yellow knights seems strange it works well.
Moveable sails, working anchor, and two working catapaults ( one ship mounted and the other dock mounted)
The new armors and shields look great
I have a good feeling about using the figs as mercenaries to my already existing armies.
All on all I like it
Priced at $26.99 Cdn

The next is 8822 Gargoyle Bridge:

3/5
Obviously a bridge type set with battering ram for sieging the gates. A nice set reminicent of ohh so many previous KK2 lines. Piece selection is good, Lego is actually doing a good job of combining in the new greys.
With a working gate, collapsable bridge, swinging axes and a very weak excuse of a battering ram (though it does "work" the design is laughable IMO)
Priced at $39.99 Cdn
Still liking the new figs!!!

And finally 8823 Mistlands Tower:

3.5/5
A largish set comprised of a large tower and spike wheel throwing catapault. Has a few design weaknesses that create stress points where the set can fall apart if attempts are made to pick it up, even if one is carefull.
Must admit that it does have a great look to it and several nice features. Accept it as fate for no lego castle set will ever be complete without a catapault. The front gate design has a sturdy look to it (shame the rest of the castle cant be) Great figs ( the King character being my favorite ) .....cough...black falcon king....cough.....
Comes with a really small and thrown in blacksmiths workshop ( furnace and anvil )
Side entrance uses black chalices for torches
Good selevtion of bricks ( any pieces with patterns on them are stickered on my the builder, I like it that way, more flexibility)
All with a price tag of $74.99 Cdn

Of most notable account though is the fact that my lovely girlfriend helped build these sets with me and it was nice to see that someone whom never experienced the good old days of lego could enjoy the new castle sets, this hopefully means good things for The Lego Group.

Hope the review and pics help out, Oh and by the way they also had the new Sponge Bob sets and Avatar sets which had a great selection of rarer castle parts, figures, armor ect...

Oh and the link to the pics...

I can't wait until the folder is public. Until then, I'd like to say that the gate on the Mistlands Tower does look imposing and sturdy. That's about all I can see right now.

I just looked.I hate it. This stuff will never grow on me. It looks incredibly juniorized, and honestly like a young kid designed it. Im not trying to turn this into a bashing thread, but it sucks.

i am intrigued by the minifig heads - most of them dont look new. vladek is still vladek even though it's like 50 years later. and i think they are just using king mathias' head for the new king jacko, and using the young jacko's head for one of the new knights. also the yellow generic soldiers have viking heads

am i right?

also... isnt the set "battle at the pass" (or something like that) coming out too? the one that supposed to have many minifigs? i dont see it on the brickshelf folder

Hmm-I think I like these. Some of the parts look useful and the minifigs are a huge step up! Overall the sets don't look too horrible with enough other parts. Of course it's nothing like the old days, but better than recently. I think I want to make a dragon out of the wings from the ship...

Thanks for these pics and the info, it's much appretiated!

Dang. Looks like I'm going to have to get these. After I get the rest of the Vikings line I need and the HP ship, that is. I really like the figs. Especially the black euro armor. I like the one with the silver trim the best, but I'll be happy to have the bronze trimmed ones as well. Which set does the brown guy come in? 8823 Mistlands Tower? The green rock pieces are cool, too.

So is the helm on the guy to the left LEGO's answer to the "kettle" helm?

I think he could pass as a black falcon king. His emblem is reminiscent of the black falcons. Still not wild about the guys fighting in their underwear...

Is that a black KK2 sword I spy in the barrel in this pic? Is that a new color? (I'm not too familiar with KK2.)

Thanks for the pics.

It is black. Overall my favorite round of KK2 has been the Lost Kingdom one. I wish Lego would have made new heads for round 3. They pretty much just took other heads and slapped them on. I think only Adric's head is new.

I'm pretty excited about the figs. I really want to stock up on the armor--I've already got plans for it. The ship looks pretty good, but all the sets leave a bit to be desired in their design. But I can't complain--at least there's some good pieces!

Thanks for posting this.

Fairly good looking stuff, better then V.1 anyday! The boat is great, the tower good for the current designs, but that bridge:BLECH!!I mean any of us would have made brick built mountans on either side and not just for"rocks"holding up the structure  .The figs look rather good though except the only one new head buisness.Kentis will look good with a better head,Adric is cool already, the rouges will be barbariens(I`ll have to change the pants :? -jibbly when I say it like that :? )I really like the new armors! So overall not to bad but my plan was only to pick up Battle At The Pass-probably won`t come out `till the summer though  Maybe I`ll pick up something else but the problem is I trying to build up on my peices to so I`ll have to hope I get a job this summer

Nice stuff. Thanks for the pictures! :D

The sets aren't too great. But the minifigs are pretty good. I don't like the reuse of old heads but that's something you'd expect from TLC these days. :?

The big set's a bit pricey, so Battle of the pass is bound to be as well. :x

i think the figs are awsome. an di thin that lego is just using too many prefab pieces to make these sets. need more BRICKS!!!

otherwise they are interesting if a little basic and underdeveloped

Better, but not quite there yet. The only set I'll be picking up is the Ship - although a pretty large BL order is in the works for those dragon sheilds...

EDIT: That red bull knight seems to have a new face...

Looks like I will be picking these up. Decent sets, good figs, good piece selection. Yup, gonna get these.

Yes, it looks like he does. Am I wrong or does the fig with the dragon shield have a new face too?

Finally a step in the right direction! I like the new crests as most corresponde to previous lines (the dragon, the bull, etc.) and the magician?/dwarf? shield is cool and I will find a good use for it. Overall nice weapons and armour.
I also find the tower to be an interesting concept, although still quite toyish. Yet, as I've mentioned, a sign of positive development by the TLC.

I have seen all of these sets in person but do not own them yet. The designs are improving from earlier KK2 sets but still not as good as they could be. My major complaint is the use of large wall pieces all over the sets. Also some things like two skinny columns supporting the tower on the dock really annoy me. The figures, armor, and shields do look great. This is definitely a step in the right direction.
