question about chrome

Post by Lcuan82 »

i've been buying lego on ebay, and one chrome sword came in pretty bad shape, b/c the a significant part of chrome has fallen off.

but, after the initial disappointment, i discovered that the original color underneath the chrome part, which is white/transparent, will actually be a pretty cool color for a sword if i can get the rest of the chrome off.

has anybody done this before, like getting the chrome part off any armor/swords? and if yes, how did you do it?

This question belongs in castle customs and I will move it there. People have removed the chrome before. It is a very thin layer of aluminum which is vacuum metalized onto the plastic. Metal polish like brasso should remove the chrome eventually. Be careful not to snap the sword in half.

I just scratched it off. Much faster that way, and it doesn't damage the sword.

I scratched it off, and it looks pretty sweet. I'll take a picture of it if I can remember.

I did this quite a while ago using Brasso. I let is soak for an hour or so and the the chrome just flaked off.

Brasso is a brass cleaner/polisher available in small rectangular cans in the cleaning aisle of just about any supermarket. Put some on a cotton ball/pad and you can (eventually) rub off any print on a lego part. It will also take the "chrome" off a part. Soaking sounds a lot easier than rubbing for the chrome. I believe the sword is a light gray, but the chrome breastplate is clear (I have a thread on Glass Armor somewhere).

I, too, had one that was in bad shape and flaking. I just scraped it all off the blade and gave it to a skeleton knight.

Mine is kind of a milky transparent.

I have a few chrome free swords and they are all that milky white color. Totally clear like the pirate armor would have been really sweet!
