How about a lexicon?

Post by Jojo »

Hello!

I wasn't sure where to place a post of this topic, so I opted for the Administrative forum.

I wonder if it was possible to insert kind of a lexicon to the site? I'm speaking of a lexicon that contains entries to technical and architectural terms (hey "technical issues" is something this subforum is meant for :-) ), ancient words and job titles, medieval customs and such. For example I wondered what the fillings between the beams in a framework are called. I know some German terms but wasn't able to find appropriate translations (babblefish is quite unhelpful in this case). Or what did they call the toilet in a medieval castle? How does this and that battle machine work?
Ancient and archaic words is something that I'm very interested in - but I'm skilled in this at most in German. However, while the explanations are in English the catchwords could be quoted in additional languages, too (like German, French, Spanish... All countries where the Middle Ages took place :-) )

Where could such a lexicon be placed within the site? Maybe in the How-to category. Or as an own category in the sidebar? Who would maintain it? It could be completed bit by bit, whenever somebody finds something interesting to add to this encyclopaedia.

Just a suggestion.

I personally think that this is a great idea! I have trouble myself with names of all the architechtural details in castles. We will have to take this under consideration.

I found this off of one of the links in the Links section

http://www.castles-of-britain.com/castle38.htm

It is pretty comprehensive. But one more focused to the LEGO community would mkae a great addition to C-C!

Sorry to reply again, but I think I am going to take up this project. I'll probably do it in installments (A-C, D-F etc). It should be fun!
