New KK2 Part 3 SET, Battle of the Pass

Postby R_The_Falcon » Sat May 20, 2006 5:30 pm

In case you haven't seen it on eurobricks, there is a new KK2 Set called Battle of the Pass. It's EUR 39.99, which I suppose will cost $20. The design is pretty stinky, but it includes old knight helmets. What I'm really pumped up about this set is that it contains 10 minifigs! When's the last time TLC did something like that?

Not being the best designer around and being reliant on premolded parts, I'd say that's a fairly good castle. The seige tower actually looks cool. But the figs look the like they're the best.

If they made an error on the pricetag, I'll hunt them down to the ends of the Earth.

Thanks for posting this.

Yeah, the set design isn't the best, but i suppose it not terrible either. Some of the good things I see about it are:

Lots of weapons
Lots of Figs
GREEN flags!
Those tall doors (I like them alot, but didn't want the HP set with them)
Old helms
Nice armor and new heraldry

I may actually break down and buy this one, esp. if it is $20 here in the US.

This looks like a pretty cool set, but I'm not sure about being 20$. I'm guessing it'll be at least around 40$. That's just a guess though...

After seeing what they charged for the other KK2 sets, I can pretty much say their currency is a little above the US dollar in value. However, the site gives some pretty wierd prices to some sets, and has some weird items. (Check out the KK2 Backpack thing, http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B ... 23-6504257) So I'm thinking the set will be somewhere between $30-40. Also, this is the first Power Ranger Set that actually has some soldiers, apparently serving under Adric. Their armor is plain, but the helmets are great. Also, 2 dragon soldiers are wearing an old nose-guard helmet, ( or Neck Protector, Flare Helmet, etc. ) Plenty of weapons, some good helmets, 10 minifigs, and a few wall pieces makes this the best KK2 Part 3 set in my opinion.

Despite a lot of premodeled ones there are still quite a lot of useful parts. It also features nice new (and old) armour and heraldry as well as more than usual for KKII minifigs.

About the price: the ECB live wire tells me that 1 EUR is currently traded for 1.2767 USD but since the taxes in the US are lower may be the set will cost an estimated $ 35-40 .

Now this is my top KK2 set for 2006 - a good amount of fortification, plenty of weapons, and an equal number of combatants for each force. It seems to be this year's equivalent to Vadek's Dark Fortress in 2005.

Of all the KK2 2006 sets, this will be the one that is coming home with me. Looks to have some potential.

Pre-molded parts are something we have to consign ourselves to.

I never thought I would see the old grill helms as active pieces again!

Well, at the first look I thought this looked like a really cool set, one I would run away to the store and buy, maybe even at full price.

Then the second look unvailed a whole lot of things.

We still get this juniorized castle parts, not unexpected but still. Those new enemy knights look a little off to me, fighting in their underwear, kind of remind me of ancient greeks or something like that.

Are'nt those gates very high over the ground?

Of course I can see some usefull parts and weapons, the return of the grilled helmet is very exciting. But we'll see about buying this at full price...

Thanks for that link! This looks to be the best set of the line, and probably the only KK2 set I'll buy this year. The reason being that it comes with my two favorite knights of the line (Sir Kentis and Dracus). If only they had done what they did for the first year of KK2 and molded a piece for the minifigure that looks like the helm on the maxi-fig. :( Oh well.
Still, the return of the grill helm is nice and I'm sure I could find uses for them.

Well, while going over recent folders on Brickshelf, I found another picture of this mysterious set that appears more recent, http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1640808 Is this the final version of the set? If it is, well, frankly I'm not buying it. They took out the old grill helms and replaced them with Sir Someone's Helmet. Then, they made the wall smaller and took away the silver armor. This is really disappointing assuming that the picture is closer to the final version of the set. However, this set can't be the final product because Amazon ( http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/tg/sto ... 53-8545802 ) is already selling a different (and superior) version of the same set. I know some sets are different in other countries, but doesn't this seem a little far fetched? I'd appreciate if someone could help clear this up.

I believe the grilled helms will be a part of that set. There is at least one Bricklink seller with these helms for sale. I would guess he has a good connection and that we can expect to see these helms in the set. As for which version we will see, I am not too sure. I haven't seen or heard much about this set yet.

Both links you gave look to me, the same. I couldn't pick out any difference.

The main differences between the sets are:

1. The first one on Amazon has old grey helms, the new one has the soldiers with Sir Aldric's Helmet.

2. The first one has two of the Knight's Kingdom Troops with silver (or black; hard to tell) armor; I think the new one has them all in yellow and green, (although the picture is pretty dark.)

I originally thought the fort was smaller, but then I realized you can stack it in different ways. Since there is only two real differences between the sets, I guess TLC could release two different versions in different countries. Still, knowing that TLC is even considering bringing back old castle stuff (like helmets) gives me a slight hope.

The second link with the sir adric helms is a box art that was first seen a couple of months ago and is more than likely an early prototype. I'd be going with the amazon pics to be the actual ones we get
