Marvel Madness: 16 vigs featuring ‘The Amazing Spider-Man'

Post by Sir Nelson »

This is a collection of 16 vignettes (some are “Bignettes”) featuring Spider-Man, as known and loved in the pages of Marvel Comics’ “The Amazing Spider-Man” - Volume 1.

As a fan of the original 1960’s Comic Book and also of the subsequent Spider-Man cartoons (also of the Sixties), I have tried to capture Spidey and many of his unforgettable and original enemies. I have also included some other familiar Marvel characters, plus a few other surprises!

Here’s a list of the vigs, featuring Spider-Man and...
Doctor Octopus
The Green Goblin
Hydro-Man
Jack O’ Lantern
Kraven the Hunter
The Man-Wolf
Madame Web
Mysterio
The Spider Slayer
The Lizard
The Rhino
The Sandman
The Scorpion
The Vulture

And a couple of other vigs...

And, as the ol’ Web-head said, these MOCs are dedicated to Creator/Writer, Stan Lee, and to Penciller/Inker, Steve Ditko.

Enjoy!

Great stuff, Nelson! I like them all, though my favorite would have to be...hmm, well, it would have to be the lizard, if only for that wonderful broken wall.

P.S. I spy, with my little eye... Urban Commando and Joe Vig!

You, sir, are insane.

Insanely talented, anyway.

Exceptional work, but that seems to be par with you, isn't it. The details on every one of them is just fantastic, and I love how you used existing parts to recreate the characters, some I never would have guessed you could have pulled off (nice job on Rhino, by the way).

My favorite would have to be 'Wrapped'. After all, that note is Spidey's catch phrase, and pretty much wraps himself up in that one line. And... the bad guys too... wrapped up... in a line...

All of these vigs are very special in their own way. It's hard to pick a favorite villain, but I think I like how you made the Scorpian the best. It's so simple, yet so effective.

Holy... wow... sixteen vigs in one post, and all of them are supreme! This brought back some very fond memories of watching the cartoon as a kid, even though I wasn't around for the '60s stuff. Some notes on a few of the vigs:

Doctor Octopus: Great articulation of those octo arms. It looks like a really fast-moving fight.

The Green Goblin: I love the construction of Mary Jane's car. It certainly looks like something she would drive.

Kraven the Hunter: Great use of that construction worker head, and I like his vest, too. It's also good to see Urban Commando again.

The Man-Wolf: The dark blue plates work great as a night sky. It's got a different feel from the black we usually see in MOCs, and more realistic, too.

Madame Web: Love the chair. The SNOT on the dress is also pretty cool.

Mysterio: He and Chameleon are two of my favorite bad guys. Mysterio is done perfectly in this vig.

The Lizard: The ceiling light looks awesome, along with the whole lab. Spidey's picture-taking pose is great!

The Rhino: Destruction everywhere. The Rhino's footprints are a nice touch, and the use of a revolver as his horn is genius.

The Scorpion: Just the construction of the building makes this a superb bignette. Detail everywhere!

Excellent work, as always! :D

These are all great but I must point out the way you managed to recreate the urban atmosphere in such a small scale. Especially visible in the Vulture and the Wolfman vigs (the moon idea - huge). I don't know what the others think about it but as far as I'm concernned it's a more-than-important accomplishment.

My words exactly.

It's impressive to make 16 at once, but something else for them all to be so cool! It would take me like an hour to give a full review for this.

Dang, Nelson, you weren't kidding when you said you'd been busy making vigs! They're all wonderful. Hmm, some favorite details include the broken wall in the Lizard one and the micro buildings in the Man-Wolf one. Must go blog now.

Nice work! I especially like how Madame Web's robe flows into the floor.

Thanks for the comments! I'm glad that you enjoyed this series. I have been wanting to build these vignettes for quite some time.

Thanks, CAI. Smythe's robot took me awhile to build. As you know, it's not to scale, but I think I captured the look correctly (based on the comic, and the old Spider-Man cartoon).

Kudos to fellow CC member Jim for the inspiration on this. Once I looked at the stained glass windows of his stone church I was inspired to include that technique in the Madame Web vig.

Also, a very special thanks to Sir Patrick for the use of the minifig heads for Spidey's villians: Dr. Octopus and Kraven the Hunter.

Excelsior!

Hey Nelson,

Did some more looking as I made another blog entry on these. Originally I hadn't focused on the Scorpion one, as I'm not a huge fan of how you did the fig (though I can't come up with a better non-customization solution), but taking a second look I'm really impressed with the detail that went into the breaking struts and the falling water tank. Very impressive that the struts are bending the correct way as the tail is swinging through, and it really looks like it's moving. The LEGO billboard is brilliant, btw.

The Sandman one is another instance where it really looks like it's moving. You've really perfectly captured the falling box of bricks. What the heck is the square fist, btw? A pen bead?

How in the heck is the Vulture held up? I assume that there is a support that is just blocked in the camera angles you chose, but it's masterfully done.

Anyway, once again, great work.
