You aren't. While I wouldn't say that its my favorite "medieval book", the series is very fun. And Brian Jacques is hysterical. If you ever get a chance to meet him, his book-signings are a blast!Rick-Ricks wrote:Glad I'm not the only one.

Re: Favorite Castle Book?
I noticed that several people had mentioned the Inheritance Trilogy/"cycle"( (It's going to be a long wait for the fourth one ))
Brisingr!!!
I'm a big fan of Potter too(yes, I've read all 7), but Eragon is a bit less wave-your-wand-around-and-say-some-magic-words . I mean, it's like he thrusts his hand out, and bellows Brisingr! and there's this large tounge of flame. Harry Potter just doesn't have that medieval realistic dragon war thing .
That's my thoughts,

Re: Favorite Castle Book?
I've been reading the Brother Caedfael mysteries lately and am getting inspired by them. I may have to build a Shrewsbury Abbey now....

Re: Favorite Castle Book?
My interests tend to run the historical gamut!
Some really great books, if you like realism, are the Pageant of England series (a history of the Plantagenet kings) by Thomas B Costain. He has such a passionate writing style that history becomes really interesting (for those of you who don't like history.) Mr. Costain also wrote some fabulous fiction books, Below the Salt and the SIlver Chalice being my favorites.
Another good Castle-y read is the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer.
I enjoy books about the French Revolution as well. Marie Antoinette was a very interesting tragic figure.
I'm not huge into fantasy, but I have always like the Hobbit, and I love the Chronicles of Narnia! I also enjoy various incarnations of the Robin Hood and King Arthur myths.
I just finished Her Majesty's SpyMaster, about Francis Walsingham, and it was very well written and really educational!

Re: Favorite Castle Book?
Bernard Cornwell is great. I can only recommend ALL of his books, specially:
The Saxon Stories
* The Last Kingdom, 2004
* The Pale Horseman, 2005
* The Lords of the North, 2006
* Sword Song, 2007
I red the books nearly "overnigth"...

Re: Favorite Castle Book?
My favorite book is defenitly LOTR. The detail, the self-made languages and just the way it is written, simply great. On the second place comes Narnia from C.S. Lewis.
