Wow, I really like those new helmets (especially the wingless ones!)
And the beards rule, I wonder what range of helmets and hairpieces they'll fit with. I do hope some hair molds come out that go right along with these (you know, for those times they're NOT wearing a helmet?)

Disappointed by the troll, lacking articulation like that is a shame on such a large figure! Also, standard rant about the dwarf legs....

Orc swords? Bad, maybe I'll like them better once I see them close and personal, but I doubt it. Orc shield? Looks pretty sweet! I like their print and the heads for them as well.

Hmmm... I must admit, I wasnt looking forward to these new sets coming out (the fantasy doesnt appeal to me). However, I do like the dwarves. Their shield design seems to imply that they are subjects of the crown knights. The goblin/orc things are somewhat interesting, but the weapons are fairly lame. I wish that Lego would have used the new piece allotment to create something more useful than that sword. To me it resembles the KKII swords in terms of its odd scale and strange design. I think the skeleton's sickle/sword would have been better. My thoughts.

I thought these were coming out in 2008! What's up?
The other ones are coming out in 2008, but the dwarves mine is out now, as sort of a teaser to the main line that's out in April.

As for my review, I really like the dwarves, although I'm still not sure if I'll be getting this set or just Bricklinking the figs.

Hmm, apparently it is not at S@H, I'll have to go to a Target or a TRU if I see one...

Anyways, great review. The beards are great, the orcs or-whatever-they-are-called look a lot better with new helmets, heads and torsos. The dwarf helmets look great (winged and wingless). The giant trolls, well they looked a lot better on the pictures than in real life :? .

More likely, the human Crown Knights buy/trade their weapons from the dwarves, as dwarves are known for superior craftsmanship with weapons and blacksmithing in general. You know—just like in real life!

I went by two Targets in the Austin, Texas area and I didn't find the set. I'll have to check back later.

The minifigures look awesome, but the set seems to be lacking. Can we get pictures of the set?

Edit:

Oops, I didn't see that there is a page 2 and 3 on eurobricks.

I was afraid the mine carts would be prefabricated, but its good that they're not. I'm not sure if i like the idea of a mine, but it does look like a good source of pieces, but I'm not too sure about the overall design.

I would be interested to know how well the beards work with older-style helmets (like the neck protector, etc). Does anyone who has the set know?

The number of unique minifig parts is amazing.

The brickzone link is great to see.

I feel the parts will definitely be able to be mixed and reused with older sets to enrich castle/viking minifigs.

I usually dont open to many big castle sets these days, this is one worth opening and interchanging with others.

Here's what I posted on that over at EB:

"Hi. I'm the one who wrote the 'mini' review at CC. Just to clarify, I don't want anyone thinking that the dwarf beard/hair actually goes under the helmet. Rather the back of the dwarven helms and the top of the hair sit flush with each other so it looks as if the hair is flowing out from under the helm. It's a very nice effect, but also has some drawbacks. Most Castle headgear won't work with the dwarven beard piece. The ones I found that did:

Forestmen's Hat - But there is a gap between the hat and the hair that exposes the back of the minifigs head.

Vikings Hat - Same gap as noted above.

Wizards Hat - Actually looks pretty good.

Castle Helmet with neck protector - It doesn't sit completely flush, but the flared neckpiece allows it to sit far enough down for a somewhat snug fit (and it looks good).

Another piece that fits is the Flat Top Hair - The back of the hairpiece sits fairly flush with the dwarven hair for a decent look."

Um well I guess the most important question that's going to decide if it's worth it or not is how much it costs? Remember that there is a small set with a dwarf coming out soon, so I don't know if it's worth shelling out XX.XX $ to get this set just for accessories that will be available soon.

This set is an excellent value for the bricks alone. It contains many light grey, dark grey, and brown bricks and plates. With 537 elements for $50 USD, it is a good price per piece ratio. Many elements in new colors are featured such as silver and gold crystals (not chromed), gold axeheads, two types of new dwarf beards in 3 colors, two types of new dwarf helmets in 2 colors, 3 dwarf shields, and one orc shield. You also get many dark blue half slopes, dark green doors, plates, and half slopes.

The Dwarves Mine was a very fun build. I recommend it to all castle fans, even ones who do not like fantasy sets ;)

I am a fan of the Goblin minifigs, and their swords down look to bad, but I would rather give them something else. The dwarf beards would be great for wizards, too. I just might buy this set.
