As of lately, I've been having problems with the generic smiley face. He just seems to be below par now days.
It is unfair to have the vikings, with their tough looking faces, fight a group of happy lion knights/crusaders.

I have to say that this shot and this shot in the Brick Testament always make me laugh; why on earth are these men always smiling, even when one of them is being sliced in half, and another is wounded and crawling among the dead? Not really situations to be grinning about...

My displeasure never falls on the faces themselves. What worries me more is not being able to find a use for them. Willa was a challenge at first but I will use her for choirs or drunken bar patrons. She's perfect for a figure that I use to represent someone at work who annoys me to no end.
As for smileys they will always have a place in my world because growing up that face was all we had. It also reminds me that the object of LEGO is to have fun. Even though my factions dislike this one or that, at the end of the day they all are my figures and they are cherished equally.

There's a face I can never find any use for, but I think I might just replace all my old Stormtrooper yellow heads with it. It's this yellow Town head with the old style sunglasses I'm thinking of. It was in a lot of sets from the 1990s, and it frustrates me when looking for unique heads for my minifigures and I turn up yet *another* sunglasses head.
