Until reading this thread I had not given serious consideration to the effect CC has had. But when you think about it...

It is too bad we cannot likely get someone from TLG to comment directly on this.

Will we see another human faction while the crownies are still in production?
Yes, I hope so. In my vision Castle becomes sort of like GIJoe in the late 80s. The Crownies are Joe. They are the core and every year they get a set or two and show up like weeds in other sets.

Surrounding them, keeping things fresh, are the new allies and villians. Year 1 was those pesky undeed, Year 1.5 was short dudes, Year 2 is the trolls. In the metaphor, its like Tiger Force, Destro's Iron Grenidiers, etc. Sure, they take up sets and there are many sets that have a Drarf and a Troll with no Crownie to be seen but the Crown-meisters are the core.

So, going forward with the metaphor, it would almost be certain that one of the supporting groups is human, either good or bad.

Then again, what do I know? They could scrap the crownies all together, bring back Lion shield dudes as a base and I'd be just as happy.

If history has shown us anything regarding LEGO Castle factions, we will notice that every three to four years there is a major design shift in the theme. I fully expect a shift away from the current "fantasy castle" style of set design some time in the future. Trends only last so long. Recently popular culture has been heavily focusing on LOTR, Narnia, Harry Potter, etc. This will change over time.

I aree, LEGO castle has gone 2 it's limmits with fantasy.
wiches, wizards, magic, undead, goblins, trolls, dwarves, now elves.
There's no more fantasy stuff 2 make.

Unless they get rights 2 The Hobbit, I don't see any fanasy in the future past the elves.

Pesonally, I prefer realistic castle, if they go back, C()()L!

LEGO could always come up with their own ideas, though they'd better be careful lest they stray into the realms of KK2 or Galidor! :P

totaly! accept for the uncompadable flesh color. (because) it's a movie, LEGO always makes their movie themes flesh color.

Speaking of past, present, future.....who here actually believes that a dwarf battlepack is likely in 2009? Castle is running ahead quickly, but for collectors of castle like me, I still want to amass those figures cheaply (bricklink is too expensive, have you guys checked the prices for dwarf parts? it's like highway robbery).

Reallly, I'm more concerned about now, because in 3-4 years, this will become "vintage" almost, and we will totally shift completely! Kids nowadays will be talking about those glory days 07' 08' years 10 yrs from now, just as we are talking about past CC sets today. When I can get at least 12 dwarves, I can say ok......where are the elves? I feel like Castle has passed me by, w/o hope that battlepacks or impulse dwarves will be released, it's like waiting for a bus that will never arrive.

But there is a Dwarf Battlepack! TRU has it for $49.99; 7036 Dwarves' Mine. Of course it has a lot of parts, but it has the best assortment of Dwarf minifigures and who really doesn't need the parts, honestly?

I can agree with this. While, naturally i'm excited about all the future sets, I still feel as if the themes and in particular factions can still go under some exposition- we are going to see a goblin mountain fortress before the theme is out, right? Right?

That the elves are so near is incredibly exciting, but again i'm fearful for those existing sub themes of the dwarves and skeletons, ideas and sets i'm not really ready to move away from just yet, especially in regards to amassing a collection of these sets that i'm happy with. Maybe i'm being greedy, but a return to two-year lasting sub-themes would be no bad thing. Then again, if you're hating this fantasy-era theme, you're probably the opposite of this entire post.

I can't wait for the elves! It'll make my lotr moc a whole lot easier.
Like LOTHLORIA or if they don't mke the hobbit movie, we can make our own with the dwarves and the elves from MIRKWOOD and the men of DALE. real easy now.
