I am in the process of building up my new light grey collection, and I've always bemoaned my lack of old light grey 1x2s (I collected that color cheifly before my AFOL days) and I'd like to score specific pieces in the manners which you describe. But I suppose we are relagated to what selection they have. I wonder if I could persuade my local manager (with whom I am on a first name basis) to order pieces I want?

This may be the basis for an article to be accessed through the front page. Thank you for this in-depth analysis and explanation
Pardon me, but did you ever find any new light gray/light bley 1 x 2s at the PaB? I'm thinking not, but just wanted to check. I've been to one store several times and I've never seen a 1x2 light bley piece ever. They (more recently) Have a good amount of dark bley parts, so that's good.

Thanks for all the info! I rarely get to make trips to Lego stores, but this is useful information for the next time I go.

Another place (in the US) where you can pick up tons of bricks cheap is craigslist. It's pretty limited, but I watch it occasionally and sometimes people will unload their kids Legos on there or sell big tubs of pieces for pretty cheap. The parts you may get will be pretty random, but it's worth checking out every now and then.

I've never bought any bulk Legos on ebay, but I have bought a number of sets. My experience has been iffy, a number of times I have bought sets that were advertised as "complete" only to get them and find they are missing pieces. So far, they have all been pretty trivial parts and it only costs less than a dollar to get them, but it's still annoying when that happens. I would say check the wording very carefully on ebay auctions, I know some people will advertise as "100% per peeron" and that's usually a good sign.

Yes those $150.00 PAB boxes are the same as at Brickworld. Both of the DC stores had them during brickfest as well. So the 5 stores I have been in have had these if you ask. Beyond that I have no idea. Maybe some others around the country can vouch for their stores availability.

I haven't seen any minifig parts in the PAB at lego stores. At Lego S@H they have minifig parts but it is easy enough for people to shop the availability and prices for those online.

I have never seen 1x2s in light bley but 1x4s they have had recently. I have picked up 4 cases of those. I would love to see 1x2s. Oh my... yes I would. 1x1s in light bley have been available as well.

I've never shopped craigslist. I should check that out as well. Thank you.

To everyone
I meant this post to act as a guide for fixed prices on PAB parts on a per piece basis. This way you can see if getting them direct from lego stores is cheaper than buying them online. Bricklink, S@H, etc. have prices on a per piece basis this lends to easy comparison. Remember PAB sells on a volume basis. A 1x1 headlight part will have a PAB price almost exactly the same a normal 1x1 because they are about the same size. Shop well my friends.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I recently bought alot of 1x4s(Like around 200 at the most maybe. Yes I'm not a BIG bulk buyer like some people, but I like to buy in bulk when I can afford it.). I need more 1x1s though. I've seen old gray 1x2s last year, and bley 1x2s on the PaB online, so I have hope! :D

Actually, that's not what I meant.

I went to a Lego Store which let you build a minifig for 3 dollars. They had this large yellow tray full of the various minifig parts. Lots of dark pink pants, red wizard pants, and death eater heads last time we went. They had some nice torsos, and accessories too (fill those hands up with goblets, suitcases, etc).

Anybody else seen this?

Yeah, I got a bunch of Slave Leias at the build-a-minifig bin in Northbrook mall, in Chicago. They're awesome but they aren't as common as just the PaB walls.
...and that's how Equestria was made!

Yes, they have one at the store I visit every now and then. It's around 12 bucks or something, and only 1 accessory per fig(Including wigs.). My friend and I ended up counting an extra head as an accessory and a extra torso inplace of the fig's legs. The cashier looked at us awkwardly and said,"Do you really want to buy this?". It was a rather amusing moment indeed!

EDIT: If this response is too off-topic please forgive me, as I didn't realize till after I posted.

I just found this thread and I'm glad I did. I've gotten to the point where I'm not so much interested in buying LEGO sets as I am in buying bulk bricks. The closest LEGO store to where I live is over 500 miles away, but it might be worth the trip if I rode Greyhound and took a grand or so with me and got some of those large boxes of parts. I find myself in need of thousands of 1x1 bricks and BrickLink and S@H are both going to run me well over $1,000 if I go either of those routes. Unless some has about 5,000 black 1x1 bricks and 500 1x1 bricks each in various colors such as sand blue, sand green, dark red, brick yellow, dark orange, etc. I don't know how likely it is to find any of those colors there, but yellow, red, green, white, and orange would be alright for now, too.

I'm shocked that the build your own minifig has gone from ~3 or 4 dollars to 12 a piece. That sounds like a ripoff right there.

There were no limits set on accessories when we did ours. Many of our figures had beards, suitcases, and goblets :)

Could someone get some photos or measure the dimensions of the large $150 boxes and a measuring for the $70 boxes? I've seen the back room type of box Lego uses to ship their PAB, but it's been so long I don't recall exactly how big they are.
