I feel outlaw myself when saying: I don't love this set too much. I really don't. It's an average set in my more than humble opinion. Back then not even the fully armoured mounted knight appealed to me that much to make me buy the set. I decided compared to 6055 it just looked rattly to me.
Besides this I wonder why a nobleman (and every knight is a nobleman) would be the only escort to a prisoner convoy? The set is lacking an inferior guard. This heaviliy armoured rider wouldn't have the slightest chance to catch the forestman if he escaped into the underwoods.

I agree that the knight is a bit out of place and an archer or footsoldier (like in 6055) would be nice to chase the forestman. However, this use of a knight is no more inappropriate than a BF armored knight being in charge of the siege equipment in 6059
I like both 6055 and 6042 carts. 6055 has a few too many horses while 6042 doesnt have enough. Having more guards would help 6042.
About the knight, I assume that he's the chief of the guard and he proudly brings back his prisoner to the lord. If they ride across the plain (and not across the forest), he don't need any more soldier to protect the convoy.
But I think that the front and back windows are too large! The prisonnier can escape more easily than by a smaller castle window!
Great set to build up an army, enough weapons to arm the whole lot, and the fact I like medieval carts makes me give this set a 9.5/10.
It could've used a forestmen shield and sword somewhere hidden in the cart to give the poor forest dude a chance.
*And the bulls arrive in kk2*
Cedric the bull: "Hahaha Leo we're here to- wtf?"
*and the bulls see some happy knights bouncing at each other with carts*
Cedric (shocked): "I guess we got the wrong KK''
Bull soldier (frightened): "Lets go back"
I liked this set when it came out I have two of them I really like the knight the color scheme of red arms and a blue torso is a classic I also agree that there should have two horses to pull the wagon and another lion guard is needed otherwise I give this set 8/10
I like this set because it was one of the few castle carts that Lego ever released (there were several others, but I believe there could be more). It also had an armored knight in gray Euro armor; a minifig most people (including myself) wish was still available .
This said, the design is fair and the cart itself has a blocky feeling to it. I'd give it 7.5/10 because of the figures included in this set.
I have this set, and I find it to be an Awesome set that would go along with a castle. You get an armored Crusader Knight (Armored knights with visors are one of my favorite kind of knights) that helps track down rebel Forestmen on his horse. You get a regular Crusader Knight that guides the horse that pull the wagon. Also this set includes a regular Forestman, but again it is still a Forestman! The wagon design is average except for the bar doors that are cleverly designed. I agree that they should have added at least one more horse to pull the wagon, but the problem can be easily fixed. You should also add an extra Crusader Archer because those Forestmen are Elite Archers. But those problems can be easily fixed, so I give this set a 9.5/10 for the 1980's-1990's era and 30/10 for now because this set uses ordinary pieces to build an Awesome while sets today use a lot of specialized pieces to make par to sub-par sets. This is a great set, there are a lot of things you can do with it, definitely get it if you need a wagon to catch the bad guys.
This set is not as great as 6055 for me. I think there is too much horse in 6055 however, and not enough for 6042. 2 horse cart could have been good in both set 6042 and 6055.
The color are nice, and the design is original.
I like it.
