Indeed...

Its amazing how far some people will go to find controversy in the smallest of things. Apparently, I'm supposed to boycott LEGO because the minifigs are ALL yellow? And at the same time, I'm boycotting LEGO because some figures look different than others? Hmmmm...

I don't think so...

And what race is a yellow smiling mini-fig anyways? Up until the NBA figs, EVERY minifig was yellow!

If I'm going to boycott something, it sure isn't going to be lego!

Later.

He himself basically says that Middle-Eastern people wear turbans, when turbans come from South Asia and that the cloth that Arabs wear is of their desert dwelling heritage and is called by another name... which I forgot.
Unlike the turban, that cloth isn't wrapped fancily on the head.
Burka? (that probably is really misspelled)

You have a really good point, more and more I'm amazed at how ignorant this guy is...make's me wonder if he works for Mega bloks... :x
LOL! He's an evil MegaBloks agent alright.

But no, the Burkha is the giant veil that only women in ultra-religious Islamic countries wear when they are outside. The hijab are the normal sized veils in moderate Islamic nations, and some Muslim American women wear one or not depending on their personal religious views on covering up.

Oh yeah, about the weapons.... broad curved bladed swords like the scimitar aren't just found in Arabia and the middle-east. Its also found in China, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, North Africa, and in South Asia too.

That just shows his own lack of knowledge and stereotyping. Yeesh lets mass email that site about how stupid his article looks to AFOLs and other Lego fans.

I always thought the Maharaja was a good guy, but I've never really looked at the set he comes with.

This article is funny. I think its sorta racist that the writer came up with these ideas.

It takes a corupt mind to think like that.

The Maharaja a villain? How can a hockey player and ruler of the Scorpion Palace be evil? He was just being manipulated by Slyboots...

LEGO racist? But all LEGO people are of one race...how is that racist? Why do people have to find something wrong with everything? First comic books...then movies...video games...poetry...now LEGO?

D**n them all!

First off, the flesh colors came out for portraying real people and actors. Like the NBA, HP, SW, and Spiderman.

Second, this guy is nuts. He's such a nincompoop. How stupid can you be to think that LEGO is racist. All thel ines he spoke of are all YELLOW flesh. And I personally think TLC portrayed the Indians as GOOD and BAD. There were obviously TWO tribes that conflicted. [sarcastic] Oh wait, that means TLC portrayed them as hostage savages killling their own kind! [/sarcastic]

And seocnd TlC portrayed the western guys as bad guys. The bad robbers were obviously not indian. But hey, maybe they wrer Middle Eastern. :P

This guy is obviously oblivious to LEGO and just likes to write to write.

He and his article are certainly full of bullpoo. :D

Student newspaper. Presumably a student writer. It will be an object lesson for him on bad reporting, or perhaps what looks like might be a bad editorial. It's so full of nonsense, factual errors, and axe-grinding, that the parts where he might actually have a point are completely lost. My grade for the writer: F.

well now... those wicked folks over at lego are perpetuating yet another stereotype.. that of the Vikings.
Why, no Vikings I ever heard of fought giant snakes, and robotic creatures... :D

bad bad lego - your punishment is to sell me more.

In an effort to avoid the conflicts of religious persecution, none of Lego’s sets involve themes of religious nature. Instead of addressing the contrasting themes, it chooses to ignore them. This is the perfect solution in today’s ever more politically correct crowd.
isn't that what they did for decades by only making yellow minifigs? Ignore it all?

From Dan Burke's Article...
Lego should join the ranks of Mattel and Disney, who now offer children numerous politically correct toys.
Politically correct toys? What?
The world is not a "politically correct" place, so the toys should reflect that. A politically correct world would be quite boring!

This also came from the website which the article was posted.....
A correction was made to this story. The adjective "Nazi-esque" was omitted from the sentence reading "Instead, it presents its own ideals of the perfect race." A following comment about the Ku Klux Klan was also omitted. "The DoG Street Journal" as a publication does not wish to insinuate that the Lego company in any way supports Nazism.
So the journalist originally compared Legos to the KKK & Nazis in his article? (thankfully their editing staff took that portion out)
Completely Ridiculous!!!
Thats what I call unprofessional Journalism. Actually, thats not even journalism, it's just a bunch of rubbish!
That journalist (doesn't even deserve the title), Dan Burke, should be fired, immediately!!!
