Hmm...I have always had them open in like other secure doors (the front door to your house or apartment or bathroom for instance). If the door opens out, that would mean that evil doers would have access to the hinge. It is usually much easier to break a hinge then a door.

Good point. My doors are on a pivot instead of having actual hinges, so my doors are still pretty well protected. Now that I think of it though, your way makes perfect sense. I suppose I always thought of the attacker trying to break in the door instead of trying to remove it entirely.
