I got sorting problems too, a lil lazyness I guess...

The name seems too general, why not the BS Syndrome?

Sorting saves all kinds of time. Most of my collection is sorted, to prevent the disease from spreading. However, when I get new stuff (like from Ebay), I have to start all over again. Upon getting the new stuff, I have the disease, because I don't want to sort yet. I always do though; eventually it gets too frustrating.

So if your collection's not too small, sort! Unless, of course, you're like boses.

Ahem, yes I never can find the piece I need and when I do find it, there's suddenly tons of that one piece. I have tried to sort my collection, but instead of spending that money on boxes, I could be buying Lego.

Wow... I gues I'm not the only one who has the BSS. (Brick Search Sydrome, thanks to Hordesman) I actually just bought a few shallow boxes for the rest of my collection that isn't sorted. This, I hope, will enable me to find things faster and easier, without having to dig through gigantic boxes of bricks. Also... in looking at some of the CC member's brickshelfs I noticed your organization skills and styles, I might just copy some.

Anyways...

I have BSS too. (I KNOW I have three black whips/vines in my collection, but where did the third one go?)

Combined with OCLB (see viewtopic.php?p=71956), it's an enormous time waster...but what a grand way to waste one's time! Fantastic!

LEGO should produce a Freud-like minifig (if they haven't already) to diagnose all our Lego-related eccentricities.

Unsorted Lego keeps me working on my MOCs for MONTHS!

I certainly have the Lego disease, in the exact for that you've presented it. However, I do avoid it by placing each set into its own box. As for MOCs, I don't make that many of them, and my MOC bricks are all sorted into storage boxes.
When I was little, I kept all Lego in one big box, and that's when the Lego disease really got on my nerves!

The solution to having MOC building problems is to buy some eBay collections. But then again, you might end up sorting out the sets from them.

Turns out, I'm not alone.

I think that they go all ninja-like to escape my... OUR, All SEEING, ALL CONTROLLING EYE!

Anyway... The amount of time it takes for me to find a piece I really need by the sifting and digging would take years, or atleast, a large amount of time.

But... The new way to find pieces more quickly is to...
Pile everyting out onto the floor, and slowing and caring setting aside any interesting pieces and putting away all the pieces that your not going to use.
It's kinda sorta maybe like the way I used to do but... It's better!

I have my Lego sorted, but find the disease is directly related to running out of space for my MOCs - then I take some of them all apart - with my sons help and they sit in a jumble until I get the energy to sort them again. Right now I have 3 or 4 huge ziplocks that are full of pieces from past mocs - not sorted yet. And as I am building my next MOC the disease is growing - I dump the bag out onto the tray my cat's food tins came in an away I go sifting ... oh that's a cool piece what could I do with that? ... Or what is even worse is when you buy a bulk lots and as you are searching for parts in it you come across a cool combination of pieces that you never thought of and off goes you train of thought ...
But Lego is a wonderful disease to have - in all its various guises.

Once i looked for one of those doorshildingthingies. The 1x1 brick with some stuff out from one of the sides. I got so zarking(Read Hichikers Guide To The Galaxy and you get it) mad.
