Umm, not to be a nitpick or anything but just wanted to mention that somebody might want to re-read the post on the mainpage...

"The CC Team is proud to announce our second annual building contest: The Colossal Castle Contest II."
"There are are also rare accessories..."
"The rules can be found here. The rules can be found here."

This was just a thought, but ever thought about having a category limited to the younger age groups?

Read the categories and prizes page. There are 8 different categories you can submit in, ranging from categories for very small creations like carts up to full sized castles covering multiple baseplates.
Athos wrote:This was just a thought, but ever thought about having a category limited to the younger age groups?
We actually didn't discuss age categories specifically. The thought was that having a variety of size-related categories would level the playing field for those with smaller collections (which often includes our younger members) in some categories while opening up larger categories so that those with large collections could let their imaginations go wild.
lil jon wrote:Under the viking catagory, does rebuilding one of the dragons/beasts from the new viking theme count say if it were battling a viking or two?
Just speaking for myself here, but if you simply posed the existing official designs or something, you probably won't get a lot of points in the creativity criterion. That said, Nate recently posted a redesign of the official dragon which could have been a good entry in a Viking setting. Steve used essentially the official Midgard Serpent design in a recent creation, but I would have given that high points, as the scene was so well constructed.
Shadow wrote:Actually, I can use some MOCs I already have to suffice.
Note in the rules that MOCs that have been displayed on-line prior to today (Nov 1) are ineligible. The goal is to promote new building, not rehash the same old creations. If, however, you have something sitting on your desk that you're waiting to photograph and post, by all means go ahead.
robin hood wrote:Question though, was there a particular reason there was no vignette catagory?
On the inclusion or not of various categories, the idea is that we vary the categories each year to keep things fresh. We've actually had a couple of recent vignette contests, for instance, not to mention several recent vignette contests in other forums. The room interior category fulfills a similar need for a category for small creations but uses a different emphasis.

A good time period would be the fall of Rome to the burning of London in 1666. So vary late Roman and late medieval is cool but ancient Greeks/Egyptians or the Industrial Age would not be.

then, what period of Rome? Republic, Empire, Byzantian, fall of Rome?

If Empire or Republic is allowed, then i got some custom figures ready to be made

The creations can be large or small. But a small moc with great details could beat a huge forestmen's tree that doesn't have those details. As for "improving" a theme, the theme must be easily recognizable. Your black falcon's could have red pants, but we expect them to have falcon torso's and shields. Confused admins do not grade a creation well ;)

The contest is after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. So if you want to make a scene of Barbarians trashing an Imperial Roman fortress or city that would be ok. Eastern Empire (Byzantium) would fit better into the medieval time frame.

Fortunately I have plenty of un-posted items. This is great. Once I finish some deadlines I'll get to it.

I have a realtive question.... I know that this site is primarily Lego oriented, but many of my mocs (the minifig ones) contain modified lego, clone brick, and even resin cast pieces. Are non-lego materials allowed in the CCC?

Non-LEGO elements are only allowed in categories labeled 'custom', wherein parts are viable for editing (cutting, painting, etc.), thus creating non-LEGO elements anyway.

All other categories must contain only official LEGO elements.

Why? Classic-Castle.com is the source for all your LEGO castle needs. The CCC is a contest held by Classic-Castle. Thus, the CCC is a LEGO castle contest.

I'm slightly confused with the castle interior catagory, you state that room must be no more than 16x16 studs, but what dos it mean by "They can hinge in the center to open up as 8x32 studs" ??
Thanks,

Jon.

Thanks for answering. I do understand the need for the actual brick-built stuff to be only Lego, and I heartily agree.

On a seperate but related note, should anyone require assistance in creating their own custom minifigs come on over to the MCN where we can show you techniques and give you tons of templates for decals. Several of the better classic-castle minifig customizers are also a part of MCN and have donated their skills to the making of the minifig database (Sava, FrySlayer, TTK, and others). I hope there will be a lot of cooperation between the two sites during the CCC. I know I'll be here soaking up the building techniques I so very dearly lack.

Two 8x16 sections (that form a 16x16 section before swinging open on hinges) swung all the way open such that they form an 8x32.

Hi, I know the rules state no entries that were public before the 1st of this month.

I've been posting a WIP of a castle i'm working on. I't not even close to complete.

I just want to know if those WIP pics will forfeit the entrie if I manage to complete it by the dead line...I don't want to rush for no good reason. :D

Cheers.

Here is my questions.

If I build a castle for the castle category and make it modular, build a theme specifc building, build a non-military building, make a custom figure, build a castle interior room, build some castle type vehicles, and build a viking type MOC will I be penalized if I use them in other enteries?

Such as the castle I submit has the vehicle, non-military build, viking stuff, custom figure and a castle room as part of the items in it, can I still enter all the other categories with the separated items?

If not can I use one of the walls in my seige scene?

In other words (as the categories currently stand), the only place that non-LEGO or modified parts can be included is the Custom minifig. No other category allows ANY Red Bean or Little Armory equipment on figs in the scene, painted parts, clone-brand parts, stickered or decaled parts, even as background figs. Correct?

Or can the Miscellaneous Category include non-LEGO (customized) pieces?
