Thomas, Merina, and William descended from the ship that had taken them from the Fell Isle, Merina holding onto both of them for support.

"We need to find an inn," Thomas was saying to the others. "Then I want to try and track down where this Fright Knight's headed. If possible, we'll catch him here. If not, we'll have to give it up, and try and catch Sir Dractor in Orion. I don't think Merina can travel except by carriage for longer distances."

"You two go find yourselves an inn," said William. "I'll track you down later. I'll find out what's happened with that Fright Knight."

"Are you sure?" asked Thomas. "There's a lot of inns in a city this size..."

And a large city it was. Chevraport was the second largest city in the Empire. Rising from one of Dametreos' best natural harbours, it circled all the way around the small bay and up the land towards a tall hill on which was built a large fortress, the bastion of the Chevron Knights.

"Cities and the Forest aren't so different as they look," said William. "I'll find you." And leaving Merina to lean completely on Thomas, he slipped away into the streets.

"I hope he's right," said Thomas. "Come on, let's go find a half-decent inn."

J-18 Port Ravlin

The sargeant let out a faint chuckle, Pyriuss would have liked to see his comrades laugh more, but that laugh cut to the bone.

“You were not the only one that the Vindicator briefed.”

“What do you mean?”

“It should be obvious by now. I won’t waste my time with fools, all I will say is that you have been selected for this mission for a reason.”

“What reason?”

The sargeant turned around and looked at him straight in the eyes “It is as the Shadow wills. I have my duty to perform, if it is to be a lowly sargeant in our great army then that is reward enough. On the other hand, you have a greater destiny then I, try not to waste it.”

The sargeant drew his cloak over his armour and walked out the room, leaving Pyriuss deep in thought. If only Gyrioss were here! He would no what to do. Sighing, Pyriuss closed the door behind him and descended to the common room.

His ten men all stood around, wandering aimlessly, one was having a drink, another flirting with a barmaid. So it seemed. They were really all standing at attention. They could have a knife through his throat before he realised what was happening.

“Right, let’s clear out before another storm hits.” Said Pyriuss.

The ten Shadow Knights nodded and left. Pyriuss turned to pay the innkeeper. Not looking to see what he pulled out of his coin pouch, he tossed what would have been the right amount onto the bar. Bidding the innkeeper good day, he ran to catch up with his comrades.

“Hey Bob! Come ‘ere a minute.” Whistled the innkeeper.

Bob the stable hand, who was lounging off to the side, stepped forward. “Wud be there problem sir?”

“Do you have any idea where these coins came from?” He held up a fat golden coin stamped with an odd insignia, sort of a cross between a spider and what looked like a snake.

“Can’t say that I ‘ave sir.” Replied Bob scratching his head.

“May I see it?” The innkeeper turned his head to see a cloaked minifig he hadn’t noticed before.

“Where the tyco did you come from?”

The figure laughed “I walked in. May I see the coin, I think I have seen it’s like before…”

The next morning Aiden was sitting on a balcony overlooking the courtyard that lead to the castle's gate. In it, sitting on a bench, was Nina. A full pack was beside her and she was dressed to travel. It seemed all she lacked was the nerve to get up and go.

That was what Aiden needed at the moment as well. He was trying to get up nerve to try and apologize and ask one last time if she would tell anything. But before he could make up his mind, something took it out of his hands.

Seven men appeared in courtyard, surrounding Nina. Six of them were dressed as palace servants, but there was something distinctly un-servant about them. The seventh man looked quite familiar to Aiden. He was a burakku shinobi, identical to the ones that had attacked Adien and Kae-Os on Boranis Dracis. All seven of the men had seemed to appear out of nowhere.

Aiden quickly glanced about the courtyard. Not a single other being in sight. No doubt part of the men's plan. Two of the men walked forward to Nina and grabbed her arm. The burakku shinobi said something to Nina, which was replied to by a quick shake of her head. Apparently not satisfied with the answer, the black ninja gestured to the others. They began to move toward the gate, Nina held tightly in their grip.

Deciding that Nina didn't want to go with those men, Aiden leapt off the balcony, into a tree, and scaled it down to the courtyard. Seeing him charge at them, three of the servants/bandits turned to face him. The burakku shinobi and the other three continued to lead Nina out of the courtyard.

Aiden drew his rapiers and prepared to meet the men.

Sorry for taking so long to post. Should be able to do so more frequently now.

Grid: H-11
Location: Dracis Ini

Elbadar had had enough of Dracis Ini. He'd had enough of Opal and Japheth's mushy romance. He'd had enough of Lord Void. He was even starting to get irritated with Caimlin.

"I can't," the Brigadier-General told Lord Void. "I won't be your war hero. It... it wouldn't be right. It would asking the people of Dragonar to make me their new king, and I don't even want to be king!"

Lord Void looked at Caimlin coldly.

Things had been like that for weeks. Caimlin was to have led a campaign into Dragonar, trying to acquire the throne, in Lord Void's attempt to humiliate Ajaxx and force him to compromise his principles. The only difficulty was... Caimlin wasn't willing to compromise his.

And Elbadar had had enough of it. Japheth and Opal weren't helping either. The two of them had spent Valentine's Day together, and Elbadar was sure he could see silver rings on their fingers in the days since. It was only a matter of time before Japheth abandoned all ties to Dragonar and he and Opal departed completely.

As a result, Elbadar was more than pleased when a very, very peculiar message arrived for him.

It arrived in a peculiar way as well. It was early morning in mid to late February, and Elbadar had ascended out of the fortress, and climbed up a trail that led up one of the mountains. As he stood at the crest of the path, breathing in the cool morning breeze, gazing down over the forested slopes, a loud voice broke the silence. Elbadar turned south-southeastwards, towards the sound.

"By the Powers That Rule Dametreos, you - Elbadar son of Halbadar, Lord Marshal of the Sorceror-king, Commander-in-Chief of the Dametreosian Forces of the Sorceror-king - are herewith summoned to the Old Ruins. Therein is convoked a gathering of Heroes from across Dametreos."

As the echoes of the voice died, Elbadar stood there with his mouth open for a few minutes, then he turned back towards Dracis Ini.

"What do you mean, you're leaving?" demanded Lord Void, as Elbadar began to pack.

"I've received a summons," said Elbadar. "My men and I are off. I'm giving up on Dragonar- and on my regiment. Us surviving seventeen will just have to find ourselves another line of work."

"If you're leaving, then I am too," said Caimlin. "Enough of this, I've got a colony to govern- and a peace to make."

"Et tu Caimlinus?" Lord Void raised an eyebrow. "Then fall, Your Voidness!"

"Your Voidness?" Elbadar looked at Lord Void in query.

"An amusing memory," said Lord Void by way of explanation. "And where will you go, Elbadar?"

"The Old Ruins in the north of Talistrand Kingdom," replied Elbadar. "I've got a job there, it seems."

"Well, if all abandon me- for I cannot count on those simpering, romantic fools- I have no choice but to abandon my quest for vengeance." Lord Void's face was a mask. "It'll have to be enough for Ajaxx to know that Void still lives."

"What?"

"Not now, Elbadar," Lord Void put aside Elbadar's queries. "My dragon and I have business. Perhaps, after I've flown over the Fire-breathing Fortress and shown Ajaxx that I'm far from dead, I'll meet you in Talistrand, and talk to you further. Or not. Farewell!"

Lord Void looked at the abandoned caves of Dracis Ini. Elbadar had left with his regiment, heading south. Caimlin had also gone, also south, to rule his own land. Japheth and Opal were also gone, to Fright Knight lands, to live their own lives. Lord Void and his black dragon remained.

Lord Void looked at the dank walls, they ancient runes, the bones of dragons past. And it was then Lord Void knew that his time in Dametreos was over.

He was not sorry. He knew this day would come. This land had thrown every challenge, and he had survived them all. And that was what Lord Void really sought. He had gained and losted and gained again power, riches and glory. But all he had ever really sought was one more hill to climb, one more challenge to overcome. And Dametreos was spent. He had beat it. And it was time to move on.

Lord Void mounted his black dragon. With a whoosh, they rocketed into the air. When they were far above the ground, Lord Void looked down. With a strech of the imagination he could see all of Dametreos, coast to coast, faction to faction.

Lord Void smiled. His monocle glinted.

"Farewell, Dametreos. Farewell. I shall not return. You will probably be better of it. But I must be off. There's new worlds to discover. Farewell Dametreos. Farewell."

And Lord Void, always true to his word, never returned to Dametreos.

Solesstorn stopped in the middle of the dark corridor and struck out his staff so suddenly that the unsuspecting Jaythus tripped over the cane that was meant to stop him and tumbled to the ground. The rest of the group, caught completely unaware, crashed right into eachother as they stopped. Storm stumbled and fell on Solesstorn's back, and then her boots slipped on the damp rock, making her join the dazed Jaythus on the smooth, cold floor. Viktor was crushed beneath Santis and the unconscious Mikelen.

"Tyc - umgh!"

His cry was choked beneath his companion's bulk. Viktor, who was becoming rapidly sick of all the confined spots he'd been in recently, kicked upwards, battering Santis's armour even as the chunky Orkosananian clumsily tried to raise himself with his fallen warhammer and move Mikelen at the same time.

"Vik, stop bloody well kicking! I'm moving!" he grumbled, trying to pull the raging soldier from the ground with him.

Storm dragged herself up, but staggered as she caught her cloak around Jaythus's leg. She spun back and kicked herself free, swearing and cursing the Eastern Knights' Kingdom all the while.

It was several minutes before the group was untangled. Solesstorn was still standing tight and tall, his eyes gazing far away. Santis scowled at him.

"What the Chodan did you stop for!?" Viktor bellowed, grabbing the wizard from behind, his face going red.

"Answer him!" the irritated Storm shouted, her face as hard as steel.

"There's been a change." Solesstorn answered.

"In what? Your ability to walk in front of people?" Viktor demanded.

Solesstorn frowned. "No, fool, there's been a change in the magic of Dametreos. The mana flow has altered itself to fit the change. Something's happened. A great source of the magic has departed this land."

The entire group stared blankly. Jaythus blinked.

More mumbo-jumbo. Santis thought silently.

"Void has left Dametreos." Solesstorn announced.

There was a slight ripple in the party.

"Vo-Void?" Mikelen asked, slowly awakening. Storm rushed to him.

"As in Lord Void?" Santis asked.

"I thought that shifty-brick was ousted and dead months ago." Viktor muttered.

The echo of Solesstorn's voice struck hard and clear in the small passageway as he spoke.

"Lord Void was deposed by Ajaxx from his throne, yes, but he was never killed. He is a high and magical being that no mortal could ever slay, I can tell you from experience."

"More tyco history lessons?" Viktor groaned, rolling his eyes.

"Is this good or bad?" Jaythus asked, speaking for the first time in hours.

"Yes, and no." Solesstorn replied. "No, it is not a good thing, because if we fail in our quest, Lord Void is one of those with the power to challenge Vermicus. With Void gone, the risk to this land becomes greater, as there are few left to oppose the Great Sorcerer. But yes, it is also a good thing, because if we were to succeed and bring down Vermicus, there would be a vacuum of power, and Void might have seized the opportunity to fill Vermicus's place as the new dark power in Dametreos."

Jaythus nodded, trying to take it all in. Viktor didn't bother trying. Instead, he had a question.

"How the Chodan do you know all this? You said you've never been to Dametreos before, and Void's a local here. So how do you know so much about him?"

"The world's a very big place, Viktor Oz. I've seen more of it and met more of it's people than you'll ever know of." Solesstorn said slowly. "Now, go and help Mikelen."

"Yes, Solesstorn, no Solesstorn, three bloody bags full Solesstorn," the red-haired, faced and armoured Easterner muttered, as he turned to support Mikelen. The old man was coming back to the world of the living, but he was faint. Santis took his right arm and held him up securely. Jaythus handed Storm his bottle of water. Without thanking him, she pulled off the bottle's stopper, drew out some water, and let her friend sip at it.

"Thank you, my girl," he gasped. "And thank you, Jaythus, for your water."

Jaythus nodded slightly. Storm looked at him sideways.

"How are you feeling?" Santis asked.

"I can walk, I think. Where's my stick?"

Ever obedient to her companion, Storm placed the firm wooden staff in his hand.

"Yes, I'll walk." Mikelen said slowly. Viktor and Santis released him, and they began to move again, following Solesstorn, who was already several meters ahead.

"Oi, wizard!" Viktor called. "Wait for us."

Solesstorn slowed down, but continued to walk. Santis sighed.

They continued into the labyrinth of passageways. Jaythus noticed that the light was growing weaker.

The three men were good. Not quite as good as Aiden. One on one he could have taken any of them, but with all three coming at once, he was hard pressed to defend himself.

The three men slowly forced him up against a wall. Things were not looking up, when a sword suddenly stuck out of the chest of one of the attackers. The man staggered and collapsed dead. The remaining two men looked to see who had killed him. That was all Aiden needed. Swinging one of his rapiers under the katana of one of the attackers, he stabbed, piercing the man's stomach. The other tried to fight back, but in a complicated series of movements, Aiden disarmed his opponent.

Pointing his sword at man's throat, he looked to see who had helped him.

Sir Theodore was running across the courtyard to him. He reached Aiden and drew his sword out of the dead body. "Thanks," said Aiden. He gestured to the sword. "Nice trick."

"Thanks, and no problem." Replied the knight. He jerked his head toward the gate. "You had better get after them. I'll see that this man is taken care of, and then have the city closed. If we're quick, they'll be trapped here."

Aiden shouted another thank you over his shoulder as he ran out the gate.

G-8 Castleton

Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months. Valric spent his time following Yuletide in Castleton. It was nice to go long stretches without having to deal with demons, sorcerers or corpses appearing everywhere. For the first time since he returned to Dametreos from his journeys in other lands, he felt at peace with himself. Well at least, that’s how it went for the month of January. When his birthday came along at the beginning of February, he almost cried when no bar fight started. By the time February was nearing it’s end, his patience was at it’s limit.

Castleton was a nice place to live, but not a nice place to live forever. More and more he began thinking of battles from the dead past, win or lose. He found himself constantly staring at the horizon or down dusty untraveled roads. He began thinking once more about distant places. Not very long afterwards, he had come to a decision.

Valric found himself in an alien land. All around him, tall menacing trees rose to the heavens. Iron bley clouds blotted out the dim sun. The horizons were rimmed with the same dark forest. Occasionally large mist covered fields would separate different clumps of trees.Valric just stared dumbfounded and scratched his head. He couldn’t remember how he got here, or where here was. Besides that, what was he doing before he got here?

Either way, he didn’t like this place. It gave him a bad feeling, not the sort of feeling you would get if a knife flew at your head. This was something else, much worse. It felt like shadows surrounded him, any moment they could close in. He knew this place was haunted by something. It was like the Forest of Restless Spirits or the dangerous woods of the Batlands. But he got the feeling that this place not near either.

Not being one to stand around, Valric decided to explore the place. He didn’t relish the thought of spending the night here. Whenever night came, it could have been midmorning or late afternoon, but in this mist, it would be too late either way. Picking up the pace, he looked around quickly, he didn’t get the feeling he was welcome here.

“Theodore!” He called, no answer. He began to call out the names of the other Royal Knights he was associated with, no answer again.

“Well tyco it then.” He grumbled.

He spent a good fifteen minutes walking in one direction. Once a skeletal tree’s branches brushed against his shoulder, an explosion hit him. A storm of negative thoughts flooded into him. Sort of like the tree itself didn’t want him near itself. After that he began to hear dim noises talking behind him. But he couldn’t see the speakers.

“Who’s there!” He growled. No answer.

His anger building, he began to move at a jog. Just as he rounded a towering oak, he came face to face with an old friend. “Weigraf!?” Stuttered Valric.

The knight in ebony armour with the fading Chevron insignia just stared at him blankly. Valric sensed that a real person was staring at him through the suit’s dark visor. “Wiegraf! What are you doing here? Your dead, I killed you, I killed Pythos, it’s over, I killed all of you!” Valric stuttered.

The solid suit of armour nodded and turned away. After several moments, Valric decided to follow him/it. Even the dead knight’s company was warmer then this lovely forest. Valric found that even with his brisk pace, he could not keep up with the distant figure’s shambling. Soon the former knight of Legoland walked under a mist coverd tree and dissappeared.

Valric somehow knew he was alone. Whatever had just happened, the forest must not have liked what just transpired. Valric decided he had an appointment to make somewhere and broke into a run. He wanted out. The moment he ran into the mists, it was over.

Valric snapped awake, he had taken a nap against a pillar in Castleton’s courtyard. “Well that was odd.” He muttered to himself. He cut it short, he heard a commotion…
