I'd be very afraid to put anything like antennas or plant pieces in the washing machine - They'd almost certainly be bent or broken, in my opinion.

I expected some broken antennas.... but I put about 40 lbs through the washer and did not break a single piece. My experience seems to trump your opinion.

However, I suspect technique has alot to do with it. My legos are in a pillowcase that is knotted and placed inside a 2nd pillowcase which is knotted. The washer is on a delicate, very short, cycle.

There is not much room for aggressive aggitation. In fact, I suspect the legos get more aggressive handling when in storage containers where they are aggitated against other legos with no pillowcase 'padding' involved.

Anyways, whatever works for you. Good luck and please post your results. I will continue using the washing machine... if I happen to get negative results, I'll post and let people know.

Sorry for coming back so late. Thanks for all of your suggestions. I see that I have started a heated debate about how to best keep things clean: I'm sure our mothers would be proud.

Wait a sec - are the washing machines you guys are using top or front-load? I think that would make a difference...

Good point, Gumby. Mine happens to be a top-loader.
