Agree with your post absolutely also the lack of Lego outlets shops in Aust and the high postage costs seems to favour the larger sets being no. 1 like when the Giant Chess set was released.

I was also thinking/hoping myer or dj might carry this set but like you posted at a higher price and even then it would likely sell out before the next lot of halve yearly sales in June/July 2009.

It makes sense to not order often from SAH but save up and get large orders.

Is postage really that high where you are? Shipping in the US and UK that I have used with TLC have been way more fair than any other company I have ever bought stuff from. I assume many places that carry it will jack the price up which is why I am buying more and more direct from Lego. That said I do buy sometimes at a small local toy store with a little mark up to help a small business.

it shouldn't be. the problem is that lego doesn't have a local store/warehouse and ships the sets directly from its warehouse in germany. (i am assuming de is the abbrev for deutscheland not denmark). so unlike us/uk, shipping starts from A$25, not $5.

even the customer service number references a foreign number and the working hours are 6pm to midnight sydney time.

not having a local presence also meant not having store coupons or loyalty cards. but enough of that. this ain't a whining thread. :P

DE is Germany, DK is Denmark.
Do they really ship from Germany all the way to Australia? That's all the way across the word.

yup. i don't have the parcels with me anymore but i am pretty sure it says de. shipping takes 18 working days. just go to shop.lego.com, click on the shipping and handling page and click on australia. you can see the shipping rate and the delivery estimate. it's ridiculous.

it is probably faster if they ship from cali. :D on that note...it's quite interesting that they don't have an asia hub. afterall, we see large lego fan base in australia, new zealand, japan, hongkong and singapore. they should really have one here to improve on their S@H services.

I must agree with the price of Postage in Aust being ridiculous. My postage on King's Castle Siege ($150) was $90 (totaling to $240 for ONE PIECE!!!!) and arrived 18 days later from Germany, yes. In a terribly big box I must admit.

However, my scouting attempts to lessen these fees was relieved by a BrickLink shop called Maxspace who's operator lives 5 minutes from me. So I should be getting this piece next week, when his orders come in as he ordered many for his shop the day it was released on S@H

The biggest problem is my kitten. She keeps stealing my knights and skeletons and hiding them around my room. :) :o :D

$90!!! :!:

That is insane. I would never have expected such a charge from TLC. If that is about what the Market will cost no wonder people there are hesitant to order it direct.

I don't have the set yet, but UPS says it's out for delivery. So I should know within a few hours and I'll be sure to post the answer.

shipping is capped at $45. for $150, the shipping is $35. Not sure how you were charged $90. :/ did you delibrately exaggerate the cost?

Sorry, I thought I paid express $90 for this piece. If this is wrong, please ignore me! I didn't mean to exaggerate. Thanks for bringing this to my attention Natelite.

I am also looking forward to the new plumes in trans-orange, and the fish pieces. Whoopee!!

I went to the Glendale store today, and they were sold out. So I S&S ordered one. My mom said I could have it delivered to her house in case I'm not home when it arrives.

I can't wait!

well in your original post you mentioned 18 days before it arrived. express shipping for $150 worth of lego comes to $80...close, but should arrive in 8 days, not 18 days. that's why i was wondering why the inconsistency.
