Interesting....
The faces on the battle pack ones actually seemed crisper perhaps....but the torsos on the set ones are prolly crisper than the other torsos...what do you all think?

Well I just did a very unscientific test with a razorblade on the inside (no damage outside) of two, one of each, along the torso. From what I can tell the hardness is almost the same by feel. I applied the same pressure and got the same resulting cut. The tool I have for metal hardness would just punch a hole and I'd have to do it outside so I cannot think of any further way of doing this without marring the minifigs outwardly...

I think to me it is still just a paint issue... and I think the newer ones are a bit crisper looking.

I recently purchased a couple SW magnet sets, and immediately noticed the legs of the Royal Guard (the red-hooded guys) were semi-translucent. Just like the red space-man from the recent vintage minifig pack the red plastic is entirely the wrong color. My wife even noticed without me pointing it out.

Are all these special sets using this red plastic? I do not think I have seen any of these see through plastics in the castle sets. The evil wizard in the chess sets I have seen are all the same solid red plastic. Any pictures or would it not show up? I'd be very interested to see as I tried a small light inside some I have of the torsos as well and both seemed to filter the light the same. That indeed would stink far more than paint issues if they are using see through plastic for such figs.

I'll try taking some photos when I get off work. If they turn out well enough, mayhaps one of our friendly ambassadors would be able to relay them on. My digital camera isn't the best (I'm still a film guy for photography), but I'll see what I can do.

I was able to take some photos of comparing the Royal Guard (SW) from the new magnet pack versus an older one from the first Imperial Shuttle set.

To clear up any issues folks are having, the plastic is MOST CERTAINLY lower quality, and the molds seem to be as well (more rounded edges, more visible injection points, etc).
It's not just the printing.

Any ambassadors have any info on this?

Wow that is worse than anything I have seen so far.... I think we need to make sure this does not get any worse. From what I can see from the pictures it looks like the newer these figs are getting worse. Looks like time to get the ambassadors in on this....

This is always happening to me! I have about 14 arms with cracks on the underside of them.

This is really surprising and good to know. I was planning on buying some of the upcoming Pirates battlepacks and tic-tac-toe game, but will now definitely pass unless someone can say that the figs in those are normal quality.

I'm pretty shocked Lego would go this route and release cheaper quality products to save some dough. Is this the megabloxing of Lego?

I have one copy of the Castle Tic-Tac-Toe that I got in the year of its release, which is 2007. The figs do not show any of the signs of lower (or let's say: different) quality that I noticed with the current battle packs and the giant Castle Chess set.

Well, that is some good news at least! Perhaps the Tic-Tac-Toe set is standard quality because it comes with bricks as well so is produced from the regular facilities?

I just received a New Pirates Tic-Tac-Toe set and I am terribly sad to say the figures are of the same poor quality.

Good news is that an acquaintance of mine told me Steve "Awesome" Witt has been made aware of this issue and will be bringing it up.
This is second-hand news, so make of it what you will.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the Pirates Tic-Tac-Toe set has this same problem. My set had 9 out of 10 of the figs with this problem. I found it rather strange that one wasn't. (Brickbeard to be precise). The red on the soldiers especially was most annoying, as it is off color just enough to be noticable.

Just my two cents.
