It takes me bact to high school, where I'd save up to buy a case of hockey cards, and spend a weekend collating a set of cards, then spend the rest of the winter trying to track down the ones I didn't get. That was before I'd ever even heard of the Internet and the other guys were in my class and this time around the other guys will need to be contacted via e-mail and the world-wide trading will begin. It's gonna be fun. Expensive, but fun.
Still, with a pack of cards, you don't get part of a card.

Um, true that....but, consider that each polybag is a pack of cards. You don't get a full set in one pack. You still need to buy a whole case to get close to a whole set. If indeed each polybag is packed with random fig parts at all, I have read that each bag contains one random complete fig and not just random parts. Hopefully, someone at TLG can clear this up for us soon.

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!
I just read on EB, that it is 1 complete minifigure per bag, so there will be no random parts in each bag. Oh well, I suppose I'll just have to prepare to trade figs I don't like.

And I just read from the Lego designer that it's a complete minifig made from random parts. Need clarification!
And this folks, is why most sites don't usually allow discussion of leaks or rumours. We go off on some strange tangents and don't have all the information we need to make really good informed decisions/opinions.
That said, whichever way they go I'm still excited about this idea. I just hope they'll be availible from shop@home for those of us who aren't near a LEGO store or themepark.

Someone on EB, named Front (Who I believe is a Lego designer) said the following:
Front wrote:1 complete minifigure pr. bag.
It is not the usual bag, it is a very thick and small, and it's impossible to tell which figure is in it before opening.
Is this the same quote you were refering to? He didn't say anything about a figure with random pieces, but I think it could be interpreted either way.
I'm pretty excited about this news. Figs are something alot of people have been wanting for along time. A set like the old fig packs were what was hoped for, but this is a pretty good alternative. It's a neat concept to have them in random bags, but as far as seeing which figs are most wanted due to sales for future themes, , randomness isn't going to work. The term "Collectible" is dumb. First of all, that just begs for the price to increase. Second, the last thing I will be doing with those figs is "collecting" them. Too many cool pieces to not MOC/play/build with. Should have called them "Affordable Minifigures" because at the end of the day, I can't get too excited if I'm paying around $3.50 for less that 10 pieces. Not saying that's how it's going to be, but if it is, it will dramatically change how I approach buying these figs.
Chief Smithy of Brick Forge I buy LEGO, I play with LEGO, therefore LEGO are not for children, they are for me!

Yes, that is true.

Hmm. This seems much more appealing. *If* it's a whole figure.

I am pretty sure I have read that the polybags are random, not their contents. You are still buying a complete item from LEGO. I wonder if there will be a number or set designation for different character sets. There should be an assembly card for each one, perhaps the number system will apply there for archivists.
The Polybags are NOT opaque, but I am pretty sure we will become tactile aware of the differences between the Native American and the Robin Hood figure. I imagine that the Cheerleader, Clown and the Caveman will be difficult to distinguish from each other, as will the Skull T-Shirt and the Female Doctor, but you have a few part clues in each bag that many of us will recognize from our experiences. There are a few of these figures I won't mind if I come up with a squad of many, and others that I'll feel the need to trade away.

My mistake. Check post #186 and #187 in that thread at EB.

That's assuming we'll be able to actually "feel" the pieces through the bag. It's likely they will try to prevent that.
To those who are about to Lego: toss me a few bricks.
Have you guys seen the new Brickset update? An article they give a link to has a full picture of the magician and cheerleader. Look pretty interesting.

A new catalog is out in Germany. Relevant to this topic is this page, with full pics of all of the collectable figs. That Flickr page has translations of the German.
