Yeah, I know. I'm just saying that those people happened to be Cunninghams. The chances of me being related to them are extremely slim, but it's fun to dream.

In actuality, information on the Midgley family coat of arms can actually be found HERE. The three stars are actually caltraps. Its probably better to search your own geneology, rather than rely on a 'coat of arms generater', which is probably more than a little bit off.

Having checked out Joosten, I found this, and while I was pleasantly surprised to see Joosten on there, my Joosten ancestors were Dutch.

Still, the emblems are similar enough for there to be a connection. Intriguing...

House of Names might be an interesting site, but it's woefully inaccurate. According to that site, this is my family's coat of arms:

However, I know that that is not the Wells (at least not our family of Wells) coat of arms. I've got an old document that I got from my Dad who says it came from his mother, who commissioned a historian to find the Wells family coat of arms. It looks almost nothing like the one shown above. Hmmm, I must really scan that coat of arms some time...

I think it's accurate as far as people who just want something to put on a coffee cup and say "this is my coat of arms".
Most of us here grasp the fact that some of us are entitled to arms and most of us aren't, and while I might say that the griffon I use (gules a griffon segreant or) is "mine", I know that its only for use in a playfull manner.
It is interesting to see in this thread how many people on our site have a link to the past (however tenuous in some cases) via these coats of arms.

Here's mine from that site. One of my relatives did reasearch of the family and the coat of arms has the star but the star is behind a mountain with the same blue background. And I looked up another site, it gave me a description that the coat of arms has three arrows on it. So I guess I can blindfully pick from three types but I'll go with the relative's version.

Yup, it is fun. I have traced my lineage back to an English knight named Percy who was married to a descendent of William the Conqueror, but that isn't uncommon. If you can trace any lineage back to European nobility, the odds are you are related (remotely) to someone famous. They were all related one way or another (some legitmately and some not). So, anyway, I am descended from William the Conqueror, but so is the rest of western society.

My family has no coat of arms apparently. Because our family's name has been changed it might be hard to dig up the right one. My family is German and Noweigan. My great great great gandfather was a ship builder. So it's possible that my ancestors were building the viking longships!

In our country we don't have aristocracy and the creation of any kind of priviliged stratum was forbiden by the constitution in the 19-th century. However I took the oportunity to redesign an old family seal using the same elements and motto and incorporate them into a western european style coat of arms so it's almost correct.
