Anyhow, I'm buying KK2. There seems to be much more for real, regular Castle.

Can someone post some pictures of the Viking helmets without the horns? I'm curious how they look hornless (I do not have my hopes up - it looks like the helmets were designed around the horns being there).

I agree. Although I'm curious as well, I'm pretty sure it won't look good. As I've said before I'm not overly happy with the faces either, so my Vikings will be heavily modified. I'll probably use flared helms, and i might even break my self-imposed vow and... cut my LEGO. Those shields though- I love them.

I will not be getting any of these sets for their minifigures, however, the viking fort seems to have a lot of pieces. Unfortunately, I have never had very many brown pieces so this set could help out a lot. What was the piece count for it around 1,000. If so, I will not be complaining there.

The only real complaint I can register with these is that they don't have those nifty beards like the prototypes.

I really think these look great on the whole, but being broke after completing my KK2 collection and saving for that Dino 'copter, Bionicle titans, and Harry Potter cemetary, I'm gonna hafta pick my favorite set outta these and leave it at that. By far the best is the big ship with the serpent. The wolf is pretty cool, but smaller ship seems to leave something to be desired, the dragon set's not much of anything for $20, and the fortress is kinda empty. But of course, these are the opinions of a rare teen fan that gets his sets for the sole purpose of playing with them for hours.

Why do you think that? The 2005 catalogue says that vikings will be out this fall.

Why would they sell Vikings in Sweden while the Swedish kids don't even like them?

Anyway, I find it ridiculous that everybody is mourning about those "incorrect" Viking helmets with horns. Everybody is pretending to know everything about the historical vikings and that they _of course_ didn't have helmets with horns. How could LEGO ever do such a tremendously historically incorrect thing!? Helmets with horns, bummer, those stupid sons of women whose profession I don't know! Helmets with horns, man, I hate LEGO for this historical incorrectness! LEGO is supposed to make historically correct toys, like Dragon Masters, Fright Knights and Knights' Kingdom Two. But horned helmets.... I'll never ever buy any LEGO again until they order back their wrong-horned Viking stuff or at least ask for the apology of every single Classic-Castle.com member. Horned helmets, my goodness. Awful thing that is.

By the way, those vikings are fighting some peculiar monsters there. Who was fighting those monsters again? Some norse gods, hm? Maybe those LEGO vikings with their horned helmets are some gods who are fully entitled to adorn their helmets with horns, even if no mortal inhabitant of ancient Norway would ever consider wearing helmets with horns?

The horned helmet part was a joke, so dont go serious. Media has horned the vikings forever, nothing to do about it. Children actually rather believes an american cartoon than a history teacher, as allways.

Vikings are available in Norway, Finland and of course Denmark. Lego just hates us. We're chosen to be damnated... But S@H got them... I dont get it.

Dik Browne is American?
Kids never believe what the teacher says :-) However, in my humbly opinion there are more important things than the knowledge of the correct form of viking helmets.

The horned viking helmet is a matter of comic-art. So is the minifig in some way. So the horned LEGO viking helmets fit in perfectly.

Thanks for the laugh, Jojo! That was really funny! I feel exactly the same way you do.

Man, every time I see more pics of these sets I want them even more! I think it's quite cool that TLC is back to putting printed torsos under armor. Also, I'm glad to see the helmets don't look too bad without the horns. I think I don't mind the stickered shields. Now, usually, I don't like stickers and never apply them, but in this case I will. The plus side is, if a printed piece gets overly scratched, there's nothing you can do about it. But if a sticker begins to wear, then you can just order some more over Bricklink!

Also, did anyone notice the large amount of colored arms and legs? I've seen sand green, dark green, dark red, dark blue, sand blue...

The helmet is interesting in that it doesn't have a flat bottom (aside from the nasal), which hasn't been that evident to me in previous pics. As I suspected, the helmet has two enormous holes in it without the horns, so either it is a case of serious mods (ahhhh, and you all know me on that score) or just suck it up and use the horns.

The Hordesman: Why in the world should a horn be made out of metal rather than horn? I mean, if they were non-existent in the first place? Now, the "horned" celtic helmets of earlier times used metal, but those were bronze and not iron. More objectionable is the size and angle of the horns (Frazetta's Conundrum, or for those that have never seen the painting in question, the horns interfer with overhead swordarm motion), but heck, that isn't going to exactly bother many children - it's a mythic/fantasy presentation, so I have less of a problem with it from that respect. I'll just use the "flaired helm", with and without aventail, and Red Bean's viking helmet, if I want a more historical look.
