Works basically like you describe, except the other way around. TT has been doing a lot of roman stuff lately, including changing his avatar and so an admin (not I ) changed his title accordingly.

I think the best part of changing TTK's rank is seeing his "reaction" to it in his sig. It really makes the cold analytical historical machine show his personality a bit.
Hey, I read venvorskar's link as to what a gong farmer actually was (my guess was pretty close to reality).
The page also listed some other bad jobs like "Searcher of the Dead" and "Executioner". If CC had custom ranks, I would be either "Searcher of .." or an Executioner, because I am evil like that.
Will the Admins please change my rank to this?

Nope... Nick, check out my Roman rank vigs, where I made the same mistake, thinking they were the same. In that post, Formendacil describes exactly what a villein is.
Oh, ok I've read it. So this is a common mistake.
Actually, I used the encyclopaedia to find out who a Bailiff was, but I never bothered with villen(the rank is too low, I suppose ).
It's a ranking or rating of a craftsman, usually within a guild. Apprentices do the grunt work while learning the job, and usually are indentured for seven years to a specific Master craftsman. Upon completing his apprenticeship, the craftsman becomes a journeyman who can charge for a day's wage, but still works for a master craftsman. He can change jobs (masters), and in fact was expected to move about and learn from different masters. He would have to produce a "master's piece" (masterpiece) to prove that he was capable and then be elected by the guild to the rank of Master (and pay the initiation fee and dues). He would then be able to set up his own shop and employ apprentices and journeymen of his own.
