The black looks awesome. It wasn't so good in dark gray because of the Green guy's armor before. This is much better, and I might even like it better than the yellow now

The lesson learned is it never hurts to try! I like the black much more than the gray.

If you have PS or Gimp, you can always select the white part with the "magic wand" and delete it that way.

Yes, but that leaves jagged lines as it doesn't get the anti-aliasing
