The Katana doesn't fit in to the LEGO castle theme so my favourite weapon is the BROADSWORD because its easy to carry and its useful and its cool. When i got the King Leo's castle it came with 4 brown crossbows and their ok i guess. BROADSWORDS rule!!

Very Oriental yes, but I kind of find that it has a certain supernatural look to it that shares with fantasy that kind of looks......out of date.

The sword

Voted for the broad sword for its versatility. I like the dark gray color ones.

I vote for the Katana or Halberd. The katana is just so sharp; it could cut through somebody wearing chainmaile! (I think...) The halberd is great, (even though I cut mine into orc battle-axes) because in the right hands this thing could cut through 3-4 men in one swing! Correct me if I am wrong.

Nothing goes through 3 or 4 men, but I have no idea how effective a katana is against chain mail. I know it was used with a drawing cut (a slicing motion either forward or back) and it would seem to me that chain would work well against that kind of attack. But how the samurai would vary the stroke knowing that (against chain or their own armor) I really don't know.

Sorry to come late to the game :)

I would probably vote for the classic sword since I have been playing with them for about 20 years.

However, my cavalry has Black Katanas in their saddle clip because they are longer then the classic sword. They would have a hard time lopping off the heads of footmen with a classic sword

They carry the new asian pike instead of the lance, again because it is longer, and I think looks more dangerous.
Let them come...

A cliche, yes, but cool nonetheless

Post by Pacificus »

I have been indoctrinated for years about the aesthetic and heroic value of the double-edged broadsword. In other words, swords are cool. My vote is a cliche, yes, but I proudly raise my dull, rounded, dark gray broadsword nonetheless.

Sword of course. In the real world the katana is the best hand to hand weapon ever produced this side of a firearm. They are lethal, and like all other swords, have no other use than killing people.

Personally I love the old light grey broadsword, and I know that that belies my European ancestry given the paragraph above. In my lego universe the light grey is steel, while the dark grey iron, brown is wood, so on. Black is special. the katana comes in black and light grey (the teal is a freak, no offense LF).

So the OLG broadsword is my fav. As for the others, all have a counter. Such is the history of armed conflict; one advance in technology meets a countering advance.

BTW I didn't know there was a gold long sword. anyone have a link? It would look great in the dragon treasure hoard I am building, even though it would be wildly impractical.

Well, I voted other because I love the scimitar. It fits in in Medieval Wordls, for all you skeptics, and it looks good, too! I also like the Chinese spears, but they are a little bit too cumbersome for my tastes.

I voted broad sword...it just seems to me like if someone thought of castle, they'd think of a Knight with a sword and shield. I almost voted for bows, but as someone mentioned earlier, they aren't really the weapon of heroes (except Legolas :D).
