The 2007 castle can't compete with this - but that would obviously be an unfair way of judging them, so I just said they were beyond fair comparison.

Yellow Castle was the first castle with minifigures. You do have a good point that comparing these two castles is hard because they are from different eras. In 1978 wall panels and burps did not exist. This changes the size and design of newer castles. Comparing the new castle to 6080, 6074, or 6085 would have been a better poll.

Apologies for going off-topic, but the Weetabix Castle page you linked to doesn't seem to be available in the Sets section, and neither is its release year. Any reason for this? Is 1970 too long before 1978?

Unfortunately we do not know the exact year this set was released. That is why I have held off adding 1970 to the sets menu. I need to talk with the LEGO archivist in Billund or write Weetabix for more conclusive information.

I really haven't seen a lot about the yellow castle but I have seen the new one so thats the one I chose.I like all the pieces it comes with.

Although having the yellow castle would give me quite a few bragging rights I think I would rather have the new castle. I would rather have the new castle because:

1. I prefer the pointed visor to the original flat visor
2. I like the single piece horse better than than the brick-built horses. and...
3. Even though Yellow castle has a whopping 14 minifigs compared to the new castles 9 minifigs ( + 1 Dragon ) I would rather have a grey castle than a yellow one.

Did I just say "crown knights" to refer to Castle 2007? Sorry, I meant Imperial Knights.

Sorry, even though the yellow castle may hold great honor and nestalgia I think that as far as playability goes the new castle comes out on top. The yellow castle definately has the correct idea about army size, but the new castle probably offers better playability, and even if you don't play with it the parts are going to be much more useful in most MOCs.

P.S. If my adament preferance of the new castle upsets anyone please don't take this personally. Their are many perfactly legit. reasons for why the yellow castle is better, like number of real bricks.

Now for me I'm really excited about many decorative elements and minifigures in the bley 2007 castle; especially the armor designs weapons and the twigs 'n rocks. But for parts the new castle also has those wall sections of single purpose that I can't seem to ever use in MOC work, even though I love them and own TOO MANY of them.

The Yellow Castle had yellow going against it (unless you incorporate it into Pirates/Imperial Guards), stickers and Dept. of Transportation style armor. While Do-It-Yourself horses aren't bad, they don't blend as well with minifigures as the "modern" molded horse. If there were a modern interpretation of the Yellow Castle in, let's say, tan with modern gear and minifigures with printed shields of the old gang of knights and squires along with the new for 2007 faction to guard the post then we might have a LEGO exclusive worthy of praise.

As they both stand I find either one to be as valuable *to me* as the other in that one has bricks I can use (although yellow) and the other has minifigures and accessory decorations I can use. So I'll call it a tie.

When I was a kid, I wanted it so bad ! I could only see it in catalogs, when my parents decided to buy me a Lego casttle, it was discontinued. Instead of the yellow one, I had the 6080, not so bad... Finally, I have bought the yellow castle a few weeks ago on eBay. Wow ! That's a beautiful castlle but very long to build (that's the pleasure !).

Both castles have their advantages, however in my opinion the yellow castle suffers in comparison for being so old. It is closer to the ideal of LEGO: totally re-usable pieces. However there is a large "fun" factor in having things that look realistic, which the specialized pieces in the newer castle achieve. I think if LEGO built a castle without burps or wall-pieces, it would basically achieve the pinnacle of the ideas of the yellow castle with the advances since then embodied in the new castles.

As for the horses, I'd like to see a better brick-built horse. We have a skeleton made from re-usable pieces, why not a horse? I'd like to have a horse with posable legs, or the ability to add horns, wings, etc. Also I suspect the skeletal horse can't duck his head, making it even less ideal. Brick-built, as in 375, is nice, but unfortunately the 375 "horses" look silly. Again, modern pieces and techniques could help a lot.

Wow, just because the yellow castle is old doesn't make it good. I admire that it's all bricks, that's cool, but come on you can build something like that out of just yellow bricks on your own. You don't need a set for that. I don't like the idea of yellow castles, and I think the new castle is far better.

Actually you are right. I had seen the yellow castle in the catalogue, back in 1983, but I didn’t wish for it, because it didn’t please me. I only got hooked on Legoland Castle the following year when they finally issued grey castles.

Now owning a set 375/6075 ”yellow castle“ is desirable merely for set collectors who want to have a complete collection, or maybe only for historical reasons, the yellow castle being the first minig-castle. Everybody else probably rather appreciates the minifigs and accessories only, some don’t even that.

I voted for the yellow castle a while ago because I'd actually prefer that over the new castle, and not because the new one's bley. I myself don't really like castle wall pieces any more than BURPs or large turret pieces. The yellow castle had BRICKS, and that's why I like it. It doesn't really matter what color they are. Plus, I don't like having any 'evil' factions, so the yellow castle has better figures to me.

i agree but also i know people who call BURPs Big Useful Rock Peices instead of Big Ugly Rock Pieces and i agree because my best castle were built on them..... but then again everyone has an opinion

I would fall in that catagory. I think that BURPs are very useful when used in the right way.
