I completely agree. I'm not sure if I like the swords or not, but they don't look like Megabloks. I think our community tends to describe anything we don't like as "Megablokish" whether it is or not. I have some Megabloks weapons and they don't look anything like these.

These swords remind me more of the oversized scimitars in the Orient Expedition sets, not of Megabloks...

Josh
I agree that the term Megablockish should not be used. Ugly is a better term. Now an orc sword probably should be ugly. What really bothers me is the poor size and scale of many new weapons compared to a minifigure. Examples of poorly scaled castle weapons include the halberd, pike, scythe, and orc sword.

I agree. Even when the Dragon Masters came out with the halberd I didn't like it because it was too big. Same story with the chrome swords.

Personally I find the broomhandle-length wands in the Harry Potter sets amusing...

OK, this is an "echo" type post, since I think most everything has already been said by someone else, but not ALL of it :)

1) Ogres (trolls, whatever): I dunno. I think they'll irk me just because they'll lack articulation. Will the head move? How about the legs? Will they have at least as much articulation as regular minifiss? If so, then I think I'll like them. If they have LESS (like the Yetti), I'll think they're a waste of plastic.

2) Beards: I got excited about beards once (the Viking prototypes), dare I get excited again? It was such a let down when they were cut from the Viking line, it made me very very sad. Here's hoping they stay with the dwarves, instead of being printed on.

3) I hate those little round shields. I don't know why. Maybe I only hate them because I don't like the Skeleton ones, especially when used with the skeletons, who have very long straight arms and look silly holding things. Maybe these will be better?

4) Bronze axe-heads: Nifty!

5) Overuse of those horrible little "slope cap pieces in gold and blue": I don't like them, and haven't for years. They seem like "how do we dress this set up, give it some more 'detailing', OH, lets stick THIS piece on everything!"

6) The "open" look to the Dwarf, thing. What is it supposed to be, a mine? A hall forge maybe? I can't tell, it looks like a bunch of pillars with platforms on it. Oh, wait, that's KKII, isn't it.

7) What is the blacksmith using as a hammer, I can't tell, I must know! Brick built anvil, way to go!

8) Winged Helmets: We'll get sick of those, but I guess they're good for Thor customs. But hark! Not ALL of the Dwarfs have winged helmets! Yay!

9) Orc Swords: Too big... As said earlier, same problem as with some other weapons (Silver Sword, Zwords, Scythe Swords).

10) What's that dwarf on the 2nd level (just above the silver-winged helmet dwarf with a double bladed axe) holding in his left hand? I can't tell!

11) *Sigh* Look, a big ugly catapult...

12) Orc helmets: Can't tell really from the pictures if i'll like them or not.

Overall, I really don't like the design of the "Forge" set, but it looks like it'll have enough unique parts in it to require a purchase.

13) Hmm, It's one of those pieces I really don't like on the top of the tower with the siege tower. And it's shooting out funny looking things! Very strange.

14) Very little effort on the "Torches" on the side of the tower. Flames in a clip? You've done much better before!

15) While I find the tower very uninspiring, the siege tower is at least interesting. I don't know if I like it or not, but it looks cobbled together (like it is supposed to), nice big banner on top.

16) The "Dwarf catapult with buzz-saws on the front" is just plain KKII ridiculous. Sorry. If it had 2 dwarfs and only 1 orc, you could at least call it a "beard building pack" ;)

17) The green dragon? Well, I voted for the Viking dragons. BUT, I think my least favorite part of this dragon (which I do like much better than the Classic Dragons), is that the "mounted knight" just SITS on it. It's the same reason I never bought any of the Buckbeak sets. You can't put the knight IN a saddle, like horses. It just sits there looking funny, like it'll slide off at any second. I still wonder about the Buckbeak design (couldn't clips have been added to a standard horse design somehow, allowing for a saddled or saddle-less look?) These dragons are NOT for riding (or posing as much as a Viking dragon, but still, better than the old Classic ones by far... and I'm sure much more expensive too).

18) I kind of like the octagonal shields. There was one up top in the Forge as well.

19) The Ogre/Troll drummer is really amusing, I like that!

20) What are those, "Orc Speedboats"? They're just cruising along with no oars or sails with front mounted (I'm sure REPEATING) crossbows? Come now, isn't that just a little silly?

21) Ahh, the viking-boat Auto-Ballista... need I say more?

22) OK, I haven't said this yet, but I'll say it now. I've never liked, nor will I still like, the "midget legs". It's not that I don't like short people, but they DON'T MOVE. At all. And that makes me not like them, and it will make me not like the dwarfs very much. And that makes me sad, because I do like fantasy elements (and had been waiting for them for a good 15-20 years... no, Fright Knights didn't do it for me ;) ).

So far, I have very mixed feelings about these sets. I don't like much of the set design, but I like a bunch of the pieces! Unfortunate, I also DISLIKE lots of pieces.

But, for fun, let's take a look through the Indi. sets too!

1) New whip, shoulder bag, and hat. The Indi figure is COOL for us! Woohoo!

2) If you didn't have enough snakes before, one copy of 7621 should have you set for life :)

3) I like the statues in 7621, I'd like to see a better shot of those.

4) Is that a new "torch" piece?

5) I'm buying at least 1 copy of 7621, overall it looks real neat for a small set!

6) 7623 looks HUGE, and looks to have some decorative elements that I can't really make out on the temple to the left (with "snot" plants... well, they're upside down, right?)

7) Brown chain? Not sure about that (just to the right of the boulder)

8) I want to see a better shot of the section off to the right.

9) Are those GREY tooth pieces with the skeleton? I can't quite tell.

10) Are those Dark Grey or BLACK plant pieces over the DARK skulls? Interesting, interesting.

11) 7622? I got nothing. There's some stuff I don't recognize (what's in the guy driving the cars hand?). Sorry, the people driving the car on the right DO look Best-Block-ish :) I think it's the facial colors.

Moving on to Star Wars

12) Sorry, had to say something here: Look at all the stormtroopers and rebel troopers in 7667 and 7668! Mwahahahaha!

13) What's around the "Battle Damaged Darth Vader"s neck? Can we use that for anything?

14) Juno Eclipses' belt is way too high, she looks funny, hehehehe.

So, while I'm not ecstatic about LOTS of the stuff coming out, I'll certainly be making some purchases!

I'm not thrilled by the new sets, although the ship does seem to have a nice design. I'm still debating whether or not I will get any of these, although if I don't, I'll definitely Bricklink some dwarves and unarmed goblins.

I'll probably just be repeating what a lot of people have said, but here goes;

Dwarf Mines
Not the most solid design (wide open style construction ... for MINES? I'd expect more BURPs). However, it's a decent set and a good companion for the Castle. There's a lot of weird parts, but there's enough good that I'll get one. For starters, it comes with quite a few minifigs.

1. 4 Dwarves, 2 Orcs and a Troll? Cool.
2. Dwarf helmets? Cool. I like that we'll get bronze and silver ones, and a gold one on that Dwarf-lord.
3. Dwarf beards? Awesome. I'm going to need extras though, for my Vikings, who have been beardless for FAR too long.
4. Bronze battle axes? Cool.
5. Like five Pick-Axes and some short-swords - excellent.
6. Ore crystals in mine carts? Cool.
7. Two barrels, and a wooden tub?! Yes!
8. Octagonal orc shields with Troll skulls as emblems? Cool.

The troll itself is great, as are the orcs. The troll's club and the orc's swords are butt-ugly, but I've got an over-abundance of Dragon Master battle axes they can carry. And what the heck is that big metal wheel supposed to be? Last, the orc helmets. They might grow on me once I have them in hand, but they're too ... round and weird. I'll probably swap them out for classic style pikeman helmets, hoods, dragon helmets, grill-visor helmets or even KK2 scorpion soldier helmets (the skeletons from Castle 07 have a few, and why do undead soldiers need armor?)

Siege Tower
Lego couldn't resist another shabby, teetering siege tower ... sigh. But at least the prison tower has a fairly solid design. There are some interesting bits though.

1. An orc with U.F.O. armor?! Cool!
2. The tattered, very LOTR orc banner? Cool.
3. A Harry Potter wooden door. I haven't gotten any of those yet, actually.
4. The best part of the whole set - the sand green flags.

The set's major problems are pretty obvious. A lame looking siege engine. My getting one will probably depend on cost - if it's 20 dollars, I'll get it. If it's 30 ... I still may, but it'll sting.

Dwarf Catapult
Hideous! Ugly! Terrible! What are those, buzz-saws? Luckily this set will probably be under 10 dollars - which makes it "decent" for easily getting two orcs and a dwarf. Not the best of troop builders, but not bad.

Troll Ship
This thing, I'll have the day I see it.

I'll keep it "roughly" the way it is (unless I decide I need those middle pieces for Pirates). I love the mixing of old and new brown - it makes it seem shabby, but has a relatively realistic look. The rails are really cool.

1. Two little boats - great!
2. Light silver crossbows! Great!
3. FIVE orcs, a troll, and a knight on a good green dragon! Cool.

...

Not bad.

(on an aside, those Indy figures are cool ... Sean Connery? Lego Nazis? It's Indy all right)

Maybe they don't need oars, because they have a trolling motor on the back of the boat. Sorry, I know that's really bad.

All I know is that the orc cart with the chicken leg dangling in front of him is the funniest thing I ever saw on a Lego box.

That said... I really enjoyed reading all the responses. Castle afficionados are so different in their likes and dislikes. Some people hate it all, some like it all. I hate any skellie faction; so these orcs/trolls are a godsend. Others hate the new light blue grey; I love it. I personally don't see much point in getting dissapointed. It isn't KKII.

By the time these sets come out, I'll have a huge army of Crown knights (already have about fifty) and be ready to buy out a new faction.

I think(Hope) a lot of these sets are still conceptual; Orc Speedboats, Chichen leg power trolls battercar.
