Clearly their is a lot of heat and passion for Pirates in the community, on both sides of the Pond apperantly. I would be most surprised if Lego doesn't take note of such discussions and see the high level of interest here. Especially since some of our members are still in the "core" audience 13, 14 and 15 year olds.

Personally I am not emotionally invested in a Pirate line. For me the Pirate appeal is rather short lived. For instance, POTC was a pleasant surprise of a movie, #2 was OK but too over-the-top, and #3 was just plain silliness. So it wore out it's welcome.

Castle holds an endless fascination for me, so I understand those for whom Pirate does too. For them (and for the castle related parts/figs!) I hope it becomes a reality.

I wonder if LEGO would take a new Pirate line in a similar direction as the new Castle line, that is maybe pirates vs. sea monsters or some such thing.

That seems to be their recent trend in the fantasy/adventure oriented lines like Vikings and Castle.

Personally, I would rather have the old Imperial-type faction back, as I always liked them better than the actual pirates anyway, but if recent events are any indicator it may be something different.

Also, I agree that the new artwork is encouraging, even though it isn't proof positive of a new line.

You know, if this was the case, I think I could easily see my excitement for this possible line decreasing significantly. :(

Honestly, isn't this one a no-brainer? Debate class was great n' all but obviously the pirates have their place and as LEGOfans we should all respect that place and look forward to it's arrival with eager anticipation.

EDIT PS - Castle still rules all and always will.

Agreed.

The charm of the original Pirates line was not just Pirating, but the conflict with the Law! Bring back Admiral Broadsides and the Imperial Navy. I very much enjoyed creating little Hornblower voyages with the Imperial sets back in the day; the soldiers, sailors and naval officers really brought some fantastic high-adventure to the line back in the day. Smack in the middle of the conflict were the merchant sailors and later the Islanders. Just Pirates by themselves without anyone to deny them treasure, or anyone to rob from, would be just plain lame.

I agree too, RichardAM and Count Blacktron.

But unfortunately I do see it as a possibility.

I don't think so, because isn't lack of enemy minifigs what caused Vikings to fail?

Ya, violates the TOS though, so I'll wait for permission before I add it to the first post.
