Yes. Of course, you can also arm them with an Axe and or Sword. Cavalry soldiers tend to carry various weapons into battle. Lances were used primarily for the shock cavalry charge. After it gets stuck in some enemy's/enemies' body, time to pull out that long sword or axe and start hacking.
