I think I bought that! It is an awesome part...just need to find a use for it...
brickathon wrote:And, as someone else mentioned here about my "vagueness" of where I get them - I do get most everything that's odd colored from overseas and the sellers I've talked to at least one has said they've gotten them from Lego directly via some way but wouldn't offer how.
It was also me that mentioned the vague answers. It just makes me wonder when the people, who got these directly from Lego, are so unwilling to talk about how they got them. Do they have something to hide? Maybe I'm just too suspicious...
I've often wondered the same thing, perhaps the use the machines when no-one is looking...?
Anyways, whatever the odd colored part, anything that is from a real LEGO mold, of odd color is neat to me. (grumble...wish I had a red ghost shrout...)

Doubtful. The production of bricks is extremely automated and streamlined. The new BrickJournal 5 has an article on the factory, and the machines are supervised by only two people per shift, and the machines run almost 24/7.
However, when new molds are tested, or when a machine is transferred from one color to another, bricks are sometimes molded in colors never seen in sets. There are bricks in the Dragon in the Dragon Coaster at LLCA that are a weird pastel melon color- created when a machine was transferred from red or pink to yellow. And the melon color isn't consistant. But unfortunately, those bricks are firmly glued in place, and only visible from inside the dragon, when working on the hydrolics.
Also, in the past the Model Shops were capable of ordering 10,000 or more of a piece in a non-production color. The LLCA model shop, for example has a wide selection of pieces in the 10 standard colors- red, yellow, blue, green, brown, tan, white, lt grey, dk grey, and black. Some of those pieces were never in a set in those colors (especially the green, brown, and tans) And occasionally those pieces end up at pick-a-bricks or public building events.
Oh, and I had a thought about rare (or non-production colored) bricks and gaming. Being a big fan of BrikWars, I've always figured that NPCs (non-production colors) were magical or masterwork versions of the item and therefore had better damage or armor ratings.

Hehe, thanks for that info. I was more jesting, but that's really neat inside info!
garraofthesand wrote:I have a cat, but im not sure if it is rare or not.
It depends on what color it is. The plain black and white aren't rare. The one with stripes and the one with a painted face are harder to get a hold of.
garraofthesand wrote:Oh.. just so you know, it is white. but i also found a premolded cave that came with some of the 6047 prison transport sets. is that rare???
White cats aren't rare, and the big plastic pieces that came as freebies with some sets aren't considered rare. Sorry.
I just recieved a BL order (from the illustrious Brickathon ) that contained not only a black beard, but a Viking helmet in unspeckled black. I'm assuming that this is a non-production piece - Bricklink lists none as bieng a part of a set - but it could be wrong. Anybody know the source of these? I know Troy's Surplus LEGO has a bunch of them . . .

I believe a European seller first offered these items. They are not that rare because you can just brasso a normal viking helmet to make one. This is also true for certain rare ovoid shields in colors like dark red and black. Both can be made by rubbing off the printing.
I'm on;y posting this becuase this forum was brought up agian.
Just another add to my Rare Collection; a Crusader Flag!
Anyway, I also acquired, in set 4894, Mythical Creatures, two 1x4 lime green plates. Now, these are interesting, because they have, on the bottom, only 1 of teh little holes filled in. I know the older ones had all, and the hewer ones have none, so I was wondering how or why they are like this. Oh, yeah, only 2 out of the 12 have this.

Ok, this is a double post, and a thread resurection, so I hope this is OK...
Anyway, I just bought a peculiar torso off of BrickLink. It is a Shadow Knight torso, but it is red instead on dark red. When I got it, I looked it over and compared it to one of my regular ones. It looks authentic, but I'm not sure.
Can anyone shed light on this for me?
