Enchanted tree tower

Post by ghoulrealm »

These are some teaser pics of my tower entry for the upcoming contest.

first we have our heros
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ghoul ... /heros.jpg
I don't have much of a story, other than the squire is decent with the bo staff and is an expert thieve to deal with the traps and contraptions of the moc.

and the villains
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ghoul ... llains.jpg
I designed the evil wizard to what I thought was, at best, loosely based on the glimps I had of him from the small skeleton tower image. I've seen the higher definition image and other than the legs, they look almost identical  I knew I wanted to stick with skelies regaurdless.
Oh, the brick beast is a gargoyle brought to life by evil

The prison chamber
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ghoul ... closed.jpg the door is closed, but pull the lever swicth and http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ghoul ... rsopen.jpg presto! The door is open. The gearing is pretty simple here, just two in the lower left corner. and a brace at the top helps keep it study.

I'm still perfecting a couple of things on the tower base. I'm not quite sure how to add em to just three pics, but I have 3 more mechanisms and a light brick incorperated into this build.

This looks awesome! If you take a bunch of pics maybe we can help you decide what to use. Also, Ben clarified this, you are allowed to show two pics as one if they show action. Meaning, you shrink them to half size and put them next to each other, but remember, the size can still only be 800x600.

Wow that wizard looks like he's holding some pretty heavy artillary!
Question: How tall is the castle? It's looking very good, the swing open door ads alot of playability.

not much taller than the official set.

there is a drawbrige too! That hole in the mouth is key to release it.

The multi colored brown is nessesarry for form with piece avalability. I was hoping it gave it a more organic feel as well.

The tower design is unorthodox, but definitely looks good. However, I am most impressed by the figs, even if they don't factor into judging. The skeleton faction is amazing, and I really like the wizard and they guy in the brown. They are very impressive creations, and I look forward to seeing the finished product.

Bravo I must say! Your tower so far looks soo decrepid and uninviting yet I find myself wanting to get right in there and see what evils it has to offer :D A very good start to a very gouhlish creation.
well I would at least like to think that I'm evil...

The figs are great, but that tower is spectacular. Marvelous construction. With some better photography (yes, I know it's just a sneak peek), this could have a good chance of winning.

That's a really cool idea, with the lever opening the door.

Thanks for the offer. I do have some ways in mind, but welcome any suggestions.

You have already seen the prison door so let me continue with the drawbridge...
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ghoul ... eeface.jpg
bridge up you can tell there is something odd by the key hole in the mouth area. If you insert a staff or spear it releases the bridge.
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ghoul ... gedown.jpg
here I used a torch handle.
the gears are slightly visable when closed :( , but are connected to a branch made of a brown technic pieces like the one on the front right. It is primarily use to retract the bridge back upright. A string or chain wench was not sturdy enough.

There is a trap related to obtaining the torch. It is integrated into some additional scenery.(more on that later)

And the eyes of the tree will glow red with a exoforce light brick under the ladder.

That looks awesome! The "face" of the tree is well done, and I really like the drawbridge mechanism, too- very cool. I'd love to see those light bricks in action, they have to be good for something, right? :D
Very cool.

I love the face and the mechanism. I stand by my earlier statement that this'll do well.

That looks splendid. It seems built in a chaotic way yet somehow everything comes together nicely.

I took a peek in the rest of your folder btw, some killer stuff there, especially that aquatic spacecraft. Keep it up!

I really like that gargoyle! The tree is pretty sweet too. Does the tree ever want to fall over from the weight of the tower?
