These look really cool. However, in the "past, present, future" figs we see Nickgreat's custom White Samurai and some of RedBean's custom weapons, which makes these pictures suspect. Can't wait to see the final product, though.

Yeah, those seem a little weird. Not even mentioning the Army minifig... :? The rest of that pic and the other images are cool though. It looks like it's going to be great.

Why not ask the supposed source, since J1A3L5 is a member here?

Ask him what? I will edit that post-"fishy" was the wrong word. More like "wierd", since LEGO has never made stuff like that before. I am sure J1A3L5 would not lie to us.

Andrew posted this on the Brothers Brick too. But those figs are indeed a bit suspect...I noticed also custom armor on a roman too...

Jan Beyer of LEGO sent this information to all LEGO Ambassadors and asked us to pass it along to the LEGO community (which makes the information hardly "exclusive" to iBricks, BTW), so I can answer this to some extent.

I don't have any insider information, but Jan included the picture of the minifigs on 1000steine along with the other two LEGO Universe images. We didn't receive any details on what each picture might mean about gameplay, but I think we can assume that it does mean *something*. :)

To add to the information that's already out there, we've learned that gameplay will be something between SimCity and Second Life.

This looks like it is going to be awesome! I wish I didn't have to wait for so long... Ah, well. The longer I wait, the better it will be.

Thanks Ambassadors!

Now that's disappointing to me, I was expecting another fantasy pseudo-medieval MMORPG (like WoW and FFXI), but with the humor of Lego Star Wars. :(

That fig is made by Daredevil. This looks like it might be pretty cool, but I'm confused by the custom figs.

I like the idea of a LEGO MMOG, but my only concern is, will it be too “child friendly” for adults to enjoy. But I will wait for the release before making any further judgement on it.

Yes, that does make that picture a little suspect. I must admit it doesn’t fit in with the other two images shown.

Bump- I wasn't sure if we had an 'official' thread or general pool for updates, so better here than anywhere else I suppose?

Massively have an interview with Ryan Seabury and Mark Hansen, the Producer and Project Lead for the title. I'm still not fully convinced of the project, but there's some interesting things in there, regarding general Lego philosophy and the thought processes involved in creating a Lego MMO.
We want to get that Lego passion and Lego understanding of our products across. If it was as easy as saying, "Here's Lego Castle, let's make it into an MMO", we wouldn't need to do that. It's not that easy. It's how we tie every set together. It's for every kid out there that loves Lego. It's a community of 3 million people, that we have. Each have different interests, you can see if you go online. There are Trains, there have City, they have Space, everything. They're trying to fit a little bit of each in to start with. What we're trying to do with the game is put enough content out there, to see that this is a creative game. You can create what you want, so how far are you going to take it?

Another bump, but this might be useful for those already interested.
The LEGO Group has confirmed what many suspected - LEGO Universe, the MMO game in development with US studio NetDevil, won't see the light of day this year.

"Previously scheduled for 2009, the launch of LEGO Universe has been delayed due to strategic optimisation within The LEGO Group," a spokesman told GameSpot.

It's all about making breathing-space for LEGO's other launches, according to the rep. "We are in a fortunate position of having many outstanding product launches scheduled for 2009, and have therefore made a decision to postpone the release of LEGO Universe."

Into next year? The LEGO Group won't say, declining to give a new release window for the MMO.

As we reported last year, LEGO Universe will blend traditional MMO gameplay with being able to build your own objects and structures in the game. And if you really like what you've made, you'll be able to order a real LEGO kit of it.

LEGO Universe will be on show at next month's Game Developers Conference, so we'll be sure to bring you more info then.

I can not say that I am surprised. LEGO Universe seems to be a huge investment for TLG which may not pay off. The game has an interesting concept. I do not think that it will be as popular as standard first person games like LEGO Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Batman.
