Ok the highlanders have invaded the area around Draelith.. thought you all might like a look.

OK so now some notes. I am NOT happy with the dresses for the ladies! I was trying to go for historical, because scottish women would wear a plain dress and then wrap themselves up in a big ol' tartan. However.. this doesnt look very lego-ey. So I will go back to this pattern I think:
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/thele ... lady_1.jpg
That way I can use torsos and slopes like lego, and heck - they arent that historical anyway :)
so come on.. tell me what you think.

Freaky MacFreak!

PS
I forgot to thank the many people who made these guys possible..
Tony for his torso templates of course, but also Kevin for this muscley torso http://www.classic-castle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=367
and sir smittens/armothe's tunic thingie http://www.classic-castle.com/forum/vie ... php?t=1064 for the kilts.

if you are confused - see my quote

Great job Freak! I'd have never gotten around to making Highlanders myself. Excellent tartans. JP and TTK will appreciate the realism here as well. When do we get to see William Wallace charge off with his Claymore? Very original. Do you have any of the torso stickers to share?

(1) We're actually not quite sure if we're members of the Irish or Scottish variety, as they appear on both sides of the pond. I'm also not even sure I spelled it right  But we DO have our own Tartan, that much I am positive!

HIGHLANDERS!

Yes Freak! These are AWESOME!

And a historical factoid for Richard - William Wallace was a lowlander and lowlanders did not wear kilts, as this was seen as a barbaric-highlander thing to do.

This is one of three un-disputed historical errors of Braveheart being

1. Wallace didn't wear a kilt.

2. Scots didn't paint their faces before combat - this was a practice of the Picts who had died out by the time of Wallace (Picts were contemporaries of the Romans - ~400 AD)

3. The Princess's illegitimate son was definately NOT Wallace's as he was born seven years after Wallace was killed. However, it was also definately not the Prince's and, if I remember correctly, Longshank's line did die with his son.

Now back to the Topic At Hand:

Out of interest, are these real tartans? If so, who are they?

Off-topic, I'm about 1/2 Scottish, 1/2 Polish (oh my :o). I believe the Scot bit of me is highlander. Clan MacPherson. Or a sept of a sept of Clan MacPherson.

yes - every one of them is a real kilt. Remember I am a lazy man trying to find an easier way to do something. So what I did was to make a kilt template, and then paste it transparently over a kilt pattern from here:
http://www.tartans.scotland.net/find_tartan.cfm
Of course I had to tile the tartan to make it big enough, but still easy enough.
Like all of my stickers they are printed on really good paper using an inkjet, then after I cut them out I go over the edges with a brush pen to hide the white edges, then glue them on using a simple glue stick.

So there you have it. :D

Nice! And those little fur poutches that they have dangling in front of their kilts nowadays, is that later added folklore?
Or did they lay them aside before going in to battle?

With friendly greetings, M. Moolhuysen.

Also, another error in Braveheart, Williem Wallace was not born to a peasent family. He was born to a duke, so he did not become 'Sir' for his brave actions. It was born to him.

Which tartans are they?

I seem to have mislaid my notes... When I made them I simply named them 01, 02 etc. I had a sheet of paper that had the original names on them though. However if you look through the tartans on that site I am sure you will find them. There's only about three thousand listed or so.

:D
