Congrats Darkspawn and Traveller! Your entries really were nice.
Those titles are pretty darn spiffy!

Wow thanks, Tony Very nice! & thanks again for the kudos all.
Unfortunetly the shelf life of most of my MOCs is only a few weeks, this one was torn down in less than a week because I was sick of the sight of it after counting elements for so longkelderic wrote:Aaron, you should take some pictures of the Brickforge animals roaming among the Dark Knight's Castle.

Congrats to the winners! This was a very nice idea for a contest
Well, I think a contest would be a lot more unfair if the best contestant didn't winPrince Imdol wrote:Its unfair when DS enters, because right when he said "I think I will enter this" I knew I who would win.

Congratulations to the winners!

My thoughts exactly. The highly skilled builders (which I am not) shouldn't feel the need to disqualify themselves. They've spent the time to build up their skill level. They should be rewarded for that.Maedhros wrote:Well, I think a contest would be a lot more unfair if the best contestant didn't win

Very good done Aaron
first of all congratulations from my side. And second of all post something as soon as you get your "Brickforge farm". I am very curious to know if those cows and sheeps are really worth buying...

I agree completely. Although, I do like the practice of past overall winners bowing out of the CCC the next year.(which dates back to Freak if I'm not mistaken) It allows us to spread the love. I have no problem with a winner stepping down when the same contest rolls around the next year. I DO NOT, however, think a great builder should be excluded because they're too good. Are we living in the age of Harrison Bergeron? Do we need the Handicapper General to Break down DARKspawn's or Sir Nelson's door and tape their fingers together?JoshWedin wrote:Congratulations to the winners!

I'm of course being silly, but I think the best part of these contests is seeing the super cool stuff that everyone here comes up with.(and then stealing your ideas) I shall now step down from my soapbox.

I'd disagree. I can think of a large number of builders here who are equally talented and would have great odds of winning. Peruse the winners of past contests and you'll see a great variety of great MOCers. Even setting aside these established names, every contest--especially the CCCs--brings new surprises, either current members who stepped up their skills since prior MOCs (and, after all, isn't sharing techniques and improving building a lot of what we do around here?) or totally new members who come out of the blue and blow us away (like, for instance, when Mark Stafford appeared).Prince Imdol wrote:Its unfair when DS enters, because right when he said "I think I will enter this" I knew I who would win.
On the past instances of big winners voluntarily removing themselves from future CCCs, I understand and honor the motive behind this, but I always miss seeing what some of my favorite builders would have come up with for each new contest. One of these days I think we should hold an invitational contest, not for all comers, but for all of those who have won any prior contest here at CC (both "official" contests like the CCCs and periodic smaller contests hosted by the admins and the "unofficial" contests like the battles contest or the mini castle contest hosted by individual members). I'd love to see a clash of titans pitting the best of the best against eachother.

You're entirely welcome. We've adopted this image (or a different wavy one Ben is working on) as a carrot to go with our contest-awarded titles. We really liked the idea and we feel it really makes winning a title all the more desirable.Traveler wrote:Hehe, I wasn't expecting such an honor, Tony! I was more just throwing out ideas for future contests. Thanks all the same for the quick response! And thanks everyone for the congratulations, I'm looking forward to seeing some of y'alls creations for CCCV!

I'll fourth, fifth, sixth(?) the idea that the talented should enter and win...
As too not entering personally, sorry Anthony, all my bricks (well a few key colours) are tied up in a current MOC.... and I don't have a huge interest in emulating lego's scale. That said the competition threw up a some interesting MOCs and inspired a lot of good building... so nice idea!
God Bless,
Nathan

Hi guys
This has been worrying me alot & I am really glad to hear some voices of support in this thread. I must admit the occasional negative comment is beggining to upset me a little. I guess that's the price of success though & I am willing to wear it.
I am not a LEGO god. There are so many people that are better builders out there than me out there that it isn't funny. I see stuff everyday that blows my mind. On this site alone there are many builders here that could easily give me a run for my money.
I'm not going to make a list because I am sure to miss a whole bunch but anyone who has been here as long as I have (& that's not that long) will know that I am a relatively small fish in a very large pond.
When I started out here just over a year ago I was a very average builder. I really looked up to many builders on this site, & rather than being jelous of their abilities & collections I set my mind to learning how to build. Nelson & John were my main influences but I soon discovered many more.
So I guess what I am saying is that anybody can accomplish what I have achieved this year by simply putting their mind to it. I am a CC success story, & I am proud to contribute to this site.
It's great that although there are always a few whiners every contest that there are so many more who (if I may) "know the score."

Again I have been outdone! Well maybe next time. Congrates to you both, and to all others who entered. I too am eagerly awaiting info on CCCV. Each contest increases my building skill. As they say third times a charm, perhaps CCCV will trow me an honorable mention. Congrates again!!

Congradulations, DARKspawn and Traveler!
I was going to enter this contest, but I got busy, didn't enjoy building something that could be deemed a "set" in LEGO set standards, and I've been playing a lot of guitar.
Soo, it has nothing to do with DARKspawn entering.

Argh! I have been outconstructed. Well, good job, and congratulations to the winners! This was a very good idea for a contest, and it was fun to enter and build. Great job; you deserve it!

I think this is a perspective that has decreased since the 'nicheizing' of the lego world. On the old Lugnet you got so used to brilliant builders being all around you... These days those who build less and post more seem to set the bar, meaning that a builder like you deservedly stands well above it. While a lot of the great builders are not considered 'contemporaries' simply because they don't post. Their MOCs may be seen on BS or TBB but they don't seem to be absorbed into the community's standard in the same way...DARKspawn wrote:There are so many people that are better builders out there than me out there that it isn't funny.
Sorry for rant/off topic, just meant to back up DS.
