Here's something that was supposed to be for CCCV, but the past two months found me with very little building time.



The scene depicts Crown Knights chasing a band of raiders from an adjoining kingdom through a treacherous mountain pass. Falls, giant spiders, and attacking "birds" are some of the dangers facing the brave, the desperate or the foolhardy. Fortunately for our heroes, two mages form the Order of Merlin accompany them on this journey.

Two things I like in particular: the "rocky" path, and the birds. The lurking spider is also a nice touch.

Hey Jovian,

Outstanding MOC. This certainly would have been in the running for a CCC win. I particularly like the web with the blue body wrapped up and also the birds. I've never seen anyone use that linked flame trick to hold a fig before; I didn't realize they would be strong enough.

BTW, that spiderweb design is just calling out for a Spider-Man fig, maybe with Mary Jane in that scene from the end of the second Spidey movie.

A very nice MOC. The overall design works well. The lurking spider is devious, as its unclear what faction will be aided or hindered by its arrival on the scene. The inclusion of the Mages is nice as well. Great to look at!

This is a fantastic MOC Jovian! Everything about it screams ultimate classic.

The rocks are quite well made, the naturally cliff-following path, the web (with prey), the spider (I LOVE this detail!!!), the birds, and even the fig choice and posing are all super well-done. I like the small veins of lighter rock, which I've never seen done as successful before. And man, the way you made the spider sticking out of that hole is great.

Like I said, overall an achievement worth drooling over!

I'm really awestruck at the way the whole scene flows. Nothing seems out of place or wrong. I also like the way you edged the baseplate to give it a less boxy feel.

One think I would change though is the almost abrupt stop on top of the mountain. It seems like it gets cut off almost. Other than that though it looks excellent.

All-in-all it is very well done. Although, my favourite elements would have to the web, spider, and the prey.

Recently I read Tolkien's "The Silmarillion". Your MOC reminds me of Ered Gorgoroth, a mountain range infested by giant spiders and the like. (I had to look up that name, so don't think I am a walking encyclopedia )

One nitpick: I saw this on Brickshelf before reading the story here. My first impression was that the wizard was pushing the soldier off the cliff with a water jet, in stead of catching him.

I agree that the mountain top looks somewhat chopped off. To be truthful I ran out of bricks at the end and was lucky to get the top to look anything more than a ragged bunch of BURPs.

I was worried that some would think the wizard was attacking instead of helping the fallen soldier. Luckily only a few have.

The spider was inspired by Shelob from the LoTR trilogy. I'll have to check out the Silmarillion someday, thanks for pointing that out Astuanaks.
