That's about all I can say about the price. As a large chunk that pretty much puts it completely out of my price range for the foreseeable future.

I soo want a huge orc army (...and a huge undead army, a large black falcon army, a large dwarf army, and a large elf army {fingers crossed}...) but I'm just a poor New Orleans boy. :(

Wait for the dwarf mine defender to come out. it has a dwarf and two troll/orcs in it each and is one of the smallest sets for this year. Later this year the troll warrior set will ocme out likely at the same price as the knight or wizard so Lego is looking out for people who have deep and shallow pockets so there is hope!

Hmmm... well, I guess I'll have to wait to see how much this comes down in price. Usually I'm not very thrifty when it comes to Lego... but I can go on Bricklink and buy what I really want from it at a considerably cheaper price.

Am I the only one who really digs the case for this set??? I almost want to buy it now just to get the cool casel Sadly, I can see no other reason to lay out so much money.

This set is cheap to us Australians. The real reason for the price of this set in the US is the current exchange rate, which has fallen drastically for Americans.

Cheer up though, at least you don't have to fork over $1k for the Falcon.

They brought dark brown back for ONE SET? That's cruel, lego...

EDIT: By the way, DNL, where did you get those pics?

No, for example the Dwarf's Mine Defender has dark brown in it as well.

If you go to S@H and view pictures of the sets, you can zoom in to see details.

Voran,
It's not the old brown. It's a new dark brown, and it's not only in that set. For example, Indy's jacket is dark brown. I also believe the troll warship will have it in several different parts like the boat hull.

Mmmmm, dark brown... I'm hoping the dark brown will be a prevalent color for the Elves. Which, given the elfish reputation for archery and the dark brown bow and quiver, I'd say is a fair shot.

I have a feeling this new dark brown is a prelude to the Elves' color scheme. To me, the arch is the staple of a Forestmen/Elves theme. Now that they plan to make it in dark brown and already have it in reddish brown and tan, I'm excited about the possibilities.

im confused as to whom this is supposed to appeal to; its way too expensive for kids and afols arent willing to spend that kind of money on a chess set. i dont buy the planned price reduction, for a company the size of lego with a product that has limited appeal all that really does is cut down the amount of time it actually sells well.

In a lot of ways this appeals to me, for instance, I have a shortage of black and white tiles. This set contains a massive chunk plus a number of figs I aim to aquire anyway, now I can do it all at once. What an insane moment it will be when I open this prize of a set.
