Olamic Castle

Hello all,

First time poster to CC. I've been reading through the forums the past few weeks and greatly enjoy the content. A bit about myself - I'm 27 and live in Northern Virginia. I came out of the Dark Ages a little over a year ago upon the discovery of bricklink.com (I felt like a kid in a candy store). I love the new castle line and can't get enough of it (like most people here). Anyway, I've been working on my first post-dark ages MOC over the past month or so and am finally finished. I tend to be more drawn to the minifigs so the castle was mostly built around them by providing the greatest playable surface area. I didn't put a whole lot into landscaping and I would eventually like to put in a moat (to complement the drawbridge). Currently minimal interior detail as well. The basic idea is Olamic Castle is under siege and the defenders are assembling to launch a counterattack . . . hopefully I'll be moving to a bigger place soon and will have the space to add in the ferocious horde of Viking attackers.

Wowie, that thing's a monster! Welcome to CC. Where in NoVa are you? Do you go to Wamalug meetings? I'm in Alexandria, but due to family I don't get opportunities to attend. BTW, the link to your MOCpage in your profile is wrong. The correct link is:

HOLY COW MAN!!! That is huge. I just am totally awed by its sheer bulk. What is that 3 or four feet square? That is truly awesome!

Welcome to the forum. That is very cool.

Meh, I have seen better.

Just kidding. This is a very nicely build castle, and the many soldiers adds even more. This would go well at a convention.

Thanks all! There are approximately 650 minifigs. To make the faction clad in gold I simply used model paint (Testors) on the cheapest pieces of armor/helmets I could find. Probably 95+% of the bricks were from bricklink. I thought about going all gray with the outer wall but concluded that would contrast too much with with the main castle. Some (among many) of the primary bricklink vendors were: Precious Princess Palace, DW Bricks, eBricksOnline, Brickscope, Amazing Bricks, and Troy's Surplus BLOKS. As a whole I have never had one truly bad experience with any bricklink vendor - so I only have praise for the site. I started building on a cheap card table but when that wasn't enough I went to Homedepot and had a 96"x48" board cut in half and laid each half on top of each other on the card table (so 4x4 feet). Room size permitting, I would eventually like to have an 8x8 table to work with (There are about 600 Vikings I would like to throw into the fight!). Currently the MOC is set up in a room that functions as an office for my fiance and guest bedroom - and I'm happy to say of the 8 or so guests who have stayed in the room all were quite impressed (If I'm lucky I might churn out 4 or 5 AFOLs  ). I'm living in Alexandria right now and my work schedule is very unpredictable but should be settling soon - so I hope to be more involved in the AFOL world. Fortunately my fiance had been relatively supportive! I might just have to build her a pink castle though in the near future to placate her :D

Excellent castle. I'm not a big fan of castles in black, but this one definitely stands out. The number of soldiers is impressive. An all-round excellent MOC!

650 men in that picture!!! 600 more vikings.... man when you get into something you really go all out. That is a great number of minifigs!

Good to have a supportive person in a relationship. I have way too mnay hobbies right now but my wife is just glad I do not try getting back into jousting I think. At least with legos you have an awesome work of art after you finish right!

No wonder Bricklink inventories are a little light these days. Now we know why...If you have a fiancee that will put up with that big of an army, well, I can see why you're marrying her.

Nice MOC, by the way.

As a minifig fan, I'm very impressed by the massed ranks of minifigs, both knight defenders and viking raiders :!:
