Thoughts on Exo-Force
I was thinking about Exo-Force today, as my sister is going to a frienbd's house, who daws nothing but anime/manga style art. This led to her brother, who is a LEGO fan, which was followed by Exo-Force and I was online at the time. So what are your general thoughts on EF? Pros? Cons?

I really like the Exo-force theme, it is much better than the megabloks robot theme from a few years ago...My only real dislike is the small number of useable (no headband or shades) heads...I like the anime hair and eyes though, I use the heads for my forest people, and the battle robot minifig arms and hands are useful too...the part selection in the official sets is pretty good too...I just hope that they introduce more new figs, or alter the present figs for more variety...Thanks for asking...

I don't like them. I'm not really into anime or the anime story line. The sets hardly have any pieces that I find useful. The faces are too different, that I don't have any place for them.
A robot or two might be nice, but beyond that, blech...

I did not like the anime theme for Exo-Force, initially, either...I would have preferred an original mecha story instead of trying to tag along with Gundam and other Japanese anime stories...That said, I am glad that Lego produced the sets, and the newer mech designs are much better then the first year, now that there are things like sealed cockpits, poseable hands, and a female fig too...

I don't know if you've heard or not, but the theme has been discontinued.

I thought they had lots of nice parts, but I never really dug the story, I guess since I'm no fan of anime.

I said this in another topic earlier today, so I'll just quote myself here...and add a couple tidbits:
The idea of mechs is actually nice. I've always wanted to build a great big robot with all the moving parts. Maybe one day. First, LEGO must cleanse anime from their system
My thoughts...
I have not bought a single Exo-force set yet. I saw that big, white, anime-ish robot on the cover of LEGO magazine, and I said "Oh no...not LEGO too!" Exo-force is the reason I slipped into my Dark Age. I thought they had just all gone crazy down there. As if KKII wasn't bad enough, now THIS? I felt insulted. Sure, I'm sure somebody could make use of the pieces. But I, having limited funds, was not spending them on some goofy, cartoony robots with their rediculous-looking characters.[/rant]I wrote:Anime has become so pervasive in our culture it disgusts me. I think it's lame that you can give characters big eyes, make up some Eastern-sounding names, and put them in machines decorated with some Chinese characters (symbols they use for words) and you have a product that will sell big. No, I am not racist, I was just describing the Exo-force line of Lego sets. I greatly dislike anime, manga, and their corresponding art styles.

I think it's a shame Exo-Force is discontinuing. This recent wave of sets are really pretty ingenious. I dig the 'weapon becomes smaller robot' feature. Thing is, most of the EF parts are not too good for MOCing, with their specialized details and stuff. Plus, I'm not big on applying stickers to my bricks.
