Tower of Ilgurum

The Tower of Ilgurum stands alone, just visible from the shore, an open invitation to any who visit. It is said that for many, perhaps hundreds of, years young mages who wished to learn great secrets went to the tower and asked the Sorcerer Ilgurum. But that was many, many years ago, and no wizards travel to that bit of rock now. Yet no word ever came from the sorcerer that the invitation was closed. And the tower still stands, just off the shore, waiting for another young magic wielder to make the journey. But be warned. If ever you make it to the tower, stop halfway up, at the balcony, and read the manuscript there.

The journey is hard,
The reward is strange,
For those who ask me,
Find that which they sought,
Be not what they thought.

I give you the Tower of Ilgurum, just as Frienze, a young magician attempts to ask the now long dead Sorcerer. But perhaps he might still get his answers.

There isn't an interior per-say, just a winding stair all the way to the top, with a slight stop over halfway for the balcony, and the manuscript. This is my first MOC that I hope to take to BrickCon, baring anything that might hinder my going. Enjoy, and please comment.

This thing's pretty sweet, I love the use of the 1x1 round bricks, and the effect with all the slopes is also great.

So, I guess this is the MOC you mentioned earlier. It's quite nice. The banister of goblets looks nice. The skeleton wizard is a really nice touch. The storyline is also a plus.

Nice job! The height of the tower and the rocks make it look formidable. Also, as castlebuilder said, the story line and the dead wizard are good.

I like the sea with the blue tiles. I don't have many so I all ways go with the blue boards. the top is a little small but it looks good

Good job. I agree with Sir Dano, the slopes really give it a good look. It would fit in well with any large display that has water, I think.

Its a nice looking MOC and has a neat backstory. I hope that the youth finds what he is looking for. Or maybe he can just move in eh.... Nice view at least.

But is the wizard truely dead? I'm thinking he could be a lich keeping his promise to teach young wizards. In any event, the young wizard will have to survive the many traps, tricks, and warding spells that guard such an abode. If he does get through then the Old Mage's study full of spell books and scrolls is his. Nice tower design.

I joined reading the background story, I guess only the most athletic young mages can conquer the grueling uphill climb. Interesting tower design, I like how the stair path is kind of hidden along the cliff.

Overall a very nice piece of work! I could go through each detail and comment on things I like, but perhaps the most intriguing and best part is how your architecture really made the tower feel larger than it was and pretty foreboding. I love it!

Great tower. If you have the bricks available, though, I'd recommend trying to work the big rock pieces (BURPs) in better. As it is, it's fairly simple to pick out those big pieces, but a few gray pieces would help them blend in. It'll look great at BrickCon.

Both those comments say what I wanted to say, just a lot better.

God bless.

Thank you all. I'm glad you enjoyed the little story. Though to be completely honest, I just whipped that story up as I made the post. As I made the tower, I had no real notion of what it was, just a vauge idea on the design. But I'm glad you like it.

Thanks. I wish you would go through it all, I always want to improve.

Really? I thought they blended well, as well as BURPs can that is. Oh well, thats how it goes. That much more incentive to try harder next time.

Thanks again.

I like the lack of SNOT on the lower portion; gives it a rockier feel. I reckon every MOC should have a story; adds to the viewing pleasure. Thanks for some great work RH.
