Bacon and Eggs

Post by Count Blockula »

Hi! :D

I wanted to share these with you all to see what you think of them:

Image Image

(I was aware ahead of time that other people have done chicken MOCs. So, I purposely avoided doing any searches because I didn't want to accidentally be influenced by and thus copy anyone's else's design. If I have, it's by coincidence, only.)

I know that they're probably too big to be used effectively at minifig scale (the chicken especially, which is probably closer to Miniland scale), but I was shooting more for detail than scale, while attempting to keep them as small as could while getting in all the major features that I wanted to include.

Basically, I'm working on a farm / zoo display for an event at the end of September, so I'm starting to build a bunch of new animals. The weird thing is that it's supposed to be a moonbase display. I'm not much of a spacehip builder, so I'm sorta cheating -- but, the way I figure, there's no reason why there can't be a farm or a zoo on the moon, right? I mean, as long as it's enclosed, that is.

Anyhow, I just thought I'd share these, since nothin' says medieval times like loud, smelly livestock! :D
Castles are kinda' like big, non-electrical stone spaceships that don't fly. Plus, you can stick your head out the window and breathe, and your eyeballs won't explode.

Both are excellent. The pig is the most "piggish" I've seen MOC'ed. Can you post pictures with minifigs, so we can put them in context?

Well done.

Wow! Those do look really great. I'm sure they will add a great flavour to whatever MOC they are put in.

Thanks, everybody!

Also, here's a variation on the chicken -- a rooster:

Image

which is really just the same thing, but with a second tooth plate beneath each wing and on the tail to add some feather colour variation and body mass, and a 1x1 plate at the top of the legs to add some height.

Here's a photo with a minifig, to show size comparison / scale:

Clearly they're quite large, but I think the exaggerated, almost cartoonish, size of them actually works pretty well.

I think the scale works perfectly. Thanks for the pics.

Great work Mike! I've been keeping tabs via Flickr, and I gotta say, these are some of the very best brick-built animals I've seen. We should update our techniques area to include them.

Possibly they're prehistoric farmyard megafauna, since the farmer is clearly some sort of caveman. Seriously, though, they're pretty nice.

I love these better than the 'pre-moulded' ones.
