Bay Castle

Post by RebelRock »

Well, I had some pretty major problems to work out at the beginning of September but things seem to be getting back on track. Not building for a month was depressing and I don't recommend it.

Picture is Brickshelf gallery link.

There's a few more shots that I'll upload later.

OK, taking a break of BrickLink to comment on this. I needed a break...

Anyway, I must say that this is absolutely outstanding. This is definitely what I could call a piece of LEGO Art. Not to say that your other castles aren't good, but this one is simply amazing! The architecture is superb! The rockscaping and landscaping on this MOC completely outweigh (in my opinion) the same on any of your other MOCs to date.

Here is a list of smaller details that I enjoyed:

The cobblestone
The wooden dock - amazing!
The water around the skier
The light glue water nearer to the land
The kitties!
The dark red/gold flag combo
The forestmen raft - This really cracked me up!
The Nessi-type monster

Well, thanks for sharing, and I'm glad you've gotten your life back on track enough to built, at any rate! I would agree that long absences from the LEGO brick can have certain withdrawl symptoms.

In Christ,

Thanks, Thomas. I was thinking of the classic castle forum when I made the forestmen raft. It just seemed like a funny idea to have them toting around a tree.

He's back! Glad you're getting rid of your bad cards Rocko, life can be a pain sometimes.

About the creation.. it's excellent, as always. It's not my favorite of yours, but that's not saying much. I love how you are able to create designs that are amazing when viewed from a distance, but also have beautiful, clever and funny details that make it worth while to look at every picture. Kudos!

It's always the details that make the MOC, and I love the wake around the water skier, and the corn. For some reason I love the corn. Maybe I have been spending too much time in Wisconsin.

The cat man, on the other hand, just scares me. :)

Wow. Now this is the Rocko I know and admire.

Fantastic work there, you've really made something more than just a MOC. I love looking at your work, it holds much inspiration and your unique approach to certain things is greatly refreshing. I hope one day I might be able to build something half as good as what you do.

Now, on to what I like. The architecture on the castle is just suberb, I love how you have integrated a number of different types of style; the classic stone, the timber 'tudor' style and the tan tower. The use of arches and other small details is really nicely done; the castle alone is stunning.

But then there is the surroundings, and they are just beautiful. From the dock to the forestmen with their tree, it is all very appealing and full of good humour. The cobblestone technique I like particularly, it has a really appealing quality to it, and the small farm out the back is really nice. I also like how you have done the water, with the wake off the water skies and the use of light blue to show shallows and disturbed water. The dock is also really nicely done, I'm running out of complimentary words to describe this thing!

Well, let me just say that you are certainly living up to your reputation, and this just shows what a small break can achieve. You are a well of inspiration, and we all appreciate the work you do. Well done, and keep building! :)

Perhaps the tree is part of the raft itself... still able to gather needed nourishment from the water.

Another great Castle MOC with tons of detail. It's very nice to see you back, Rocko. I can only imagine what lies ahead for your CCC entries (should you have the time to enter).

Neat. Good to see your great MOCs again. The row bot pulling the skier is classic. Love the nessie mobile as well. The farmstead looks great. The two forestmen there are a nice tribute to them in their forestmeny ways.

Wow rocko, another masterpiece!
i really appreciate your work very much, it is simply wonderful.
The onlything i don't like from your works (in general) is that i cannot give them an era, i mean they seem to be a little too "modern" for a medieval age.
But they are so beautiful...

Beautiful and slightly twisted as always!

Those must be some strong rowers to be able to let the skier get up on a plane!

Love the chimney on the farmhouse. Never would have thought to do it quite that way.
