Away in a [miniland] Manger (New Additions 12-14-08)

Post by Athos »

We were putting up Christmas decorations and didn't have a nice nativity to display, so I decided to rectify that:

While, I'm quite fond of Mary's hair, I'm not real happy with how Baby Jesus turned out, though. Any suggestions?

Here's the rest of the gallery:

Maybe you could just use a normal fig for him? Just my thoughts.

The first Noel the [miniland] angel did say
Was to certain poor [miniland] shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their [miniland] sheep...

I bet you can't guess the latest additions to my miniland nativity:

And I also redesigned Baby Jesus to something less barrell shaped...

Hey Steve,

These are great! I particularly like the shepherd and his sheep. Not so sure on the angel's wings. I haven't posted it to MinilandBricks yet because I want to do sort of a countdown to Christmas day and am lining up a few relevant MOCs to post for at least the week before Christmas (MisaQa has some great angels, Blackbulb has angels and Santas, some photos from the Legoland parks decorated for the holiday, any other suggestions?). Are you planning on adding anything - wise men, camels, donkey, cow?

On a related note, can anyone think of a Christmas carol that mentions, even in passing, Joseph?

It's not a traditional Christmas carol, but MercyMe has a Christmas song called "Joseph's Lullaby" that is sung from the perspective of Joseph.

I'm hoping to do at least the wisemen. And then maybe the animals.

Angels we have Heard on High says "Mary Joseph lend you aid" at some point. And there is one called When Joseph Went to Bethlehem, though I'm not familiar with it.

Cool. I forgot to mention that your sheep is very remniscent of the third Wallace and Grommet film.

Thanks for the Joseph reference. I was planning on intro-ing the MOCs with lyrics from carols. Joseph gets pretty short shrift in that department, doesn't he. Heck, a made-up drummer boy gets a whole song, and 1/3 of the holy family gets almost totally ignored.

This is one awesome MOC. I think everything is rather well done, and detailed. I am glad to see another nativity MOC aswell. I wanted to do one, but I don't have the time.
