CCCVI - The Siege of Elsweyr

Deep in the empty desert, a band of crusading nobles lay siege to a castle that had seemed abandoned when they first approached, but appears to be garrisoned by some most unusual inhabitants.

(Pictures are deeplinks to larger ones)

Image

Some of the christian archers had positioned themselves on a raised bit of land over an old mine entrance just outside the walls to get a better shot at the enemy troops on the walls. It turns out that wasn't the best place to set down.

Here's the siege tower the crusaders used:

And here's some of the minifigures that duke it out in this siege.

Cool, I love the desert theme with the zombies and mummies coming out of the crypt. Looks awesome!

Go Team Architect, Woohoo! :D

Excellent work. The desert setting is great.

The tower has a great "beaten and weathered" look to it. The concept is great as well. The desert setting is different; I'd say many of us overlooked going in that direction for MOCs for CCCVI. (I have no choice but overlook it -- I have maybe four pieces of tan in my collection!) It's a great MOC!

I like your mottled wall styles. Something I plan on stealing =)

Very cool.

There's alot of life (Or perhaps I should say afterlife?) and action in this scene. I love the archers being flipped backwards.

That all alone gives me great reason to love this MOC, but the building itself, and then that siege tower - dang! 8)

Awesome scene! I love the undead enemy soldiers, and the yeoman archers add some nice diversity to the crusader army, I'm all for variety in larger armies. The worn-down wooden roofing, though simple, really adds to the atmosphere that this area has been "uninhabited" for quite some time.

My only problem, and this is pertains to almost every siege tower moc or set, is that there is nothing pulling/pushing it. I mean I suppose the soldiers tasked to this are a bit occupied. It's not a big problem (as I said it's common), but my suggestion to fix this would be to maybe have a couple soldiers by the tower picking up weapons and looking like they were taken by surprise.

Other than that, good luck with this excellent entry!

EDIT: er I looked at the pictures again and it seems like those two forestmen-shield toting soldiers are up to the task  gotta love conscripted labor!

I like it, I like it. Both well built and tells a good story. My main thoughts are:

Its tells a good story. Looking at it I can imagine it almost as a scene from a movie. The army approaches the castle...all is perfectly still and silent...the old wooden parts creak ever so slightly...the army moves closer...suddenly undead appear from all over and the battle begins. Change the undead to arabs and this is something I could see in a movie like Kingdom of Heaven.

It looks realistic...or at least as far as a MOC with undead can be. The way you did up the attacking army was well done. I can see the difference between the nobels, the paid soldiers, and the conscripts. Its very periodish.

And, its also just different. Having undead placed in a desert is slight deviation from the norm and adds just that much more to the creation. All in all, another spot on MOC. Go Team Architect.

I like it, but I had the same idea, a siege in the desert, will have to change that now :/.

Nice job! I like the tan desert castle, and the siege tower looks realistic.

You know my take on this one :)
Nice mixture of SNOT and visible studs :) The positioning of the mine entrance is really nice. And those undead guys give me the creeps.

I was wondering, since there were some crusader messengers in your other MOC; is this the bad news that they were delivering?
