I'm back building again, with a new samurai/feudal diorama. Built this with my two young kids in about a week.

I like this, you did a great job. However the sunglasses on the white samurai are really bugging me.

Very nice indeed. I agree with Josh about the sunglasses. Are they meant to represent a disguise? Anyways, the overall build is very nice as well. I can't help but wonder if the siding (on your other pics) is made of cheese slopes? My favorite part though is the simple flowing pants design. It's awesome when someone builds something I know my wife would enjoy also. Kinda makes me wish Lego would revisit the Ninja theme.

Those lamps and flags rock. I also like the greenery. I like your SNOT work.

Awesome work. I love the Samurai Shodown games. Brings back some happy memories. I may branch out into the ninja/samurai style sets next. I'm already planning to order some black ninja hoods and black ninja swords for my black skeletons from BrickLink. It's gonna rock.

Great job, the shingles are awesome. I really like how you've put this scene togther, looks like something out of one of those 1970's kung-fu movies

It looks like the shingles were created by just overlapping tiles connected by plates on the back. I'm guessing each shingled wall section is just held in place by gravity/friction (maybe some bracing in the back as well).
Thanks!

Thanks guys for the comments.
The whole scene setup in my mind was kinda a cross between the kill bill movies and samurai shodown arcade games then a little Bruce Lee movie-style backdrop... then add in a 7 and 8 year old's direction on what to build... was fun
The only part I wanted to do more on was the black roof. Would have loved to do some 1x2 tiles on clips mixed with 1x1 rounds, but we simply did not have the parts to make it work.
The white siding is not cheese slopes at all, it's quite simply overlapping layers of 2x2 white tiles. Attached the whole section to the top of the stone wall using hinge-plates.

Wow. You really managed a nearly impossible feat...you made minifigs look dynamic. Fascinating! The figs are a really cool element to this but as far as I'm concerned, not the stars of this MOC, it's everything else that really wows me. Your SNOT courtyard is used perfectly (unlike a lot of MOCs out there) as it lets those bamboo shoots really look like foliage. Although, the low camera angle helps the effect of this, nice work. The tree is also very, very nice with it's gnarled weathered looking trunk, it's exactly what one would expect of a Japanese tree. You know, because the western world think all trees in Japan look like bonsai after all.
The siding on your fortress is well done too. It doesn't look like it all that solid not really being fully attached to a stud and all but it looks fantastic. The timbers coming out just over the stonework are a nice little touch and your torii is beautiful, even though it's brown and not red/orange.
Well played!
*edit*
HANG ON HERE!! Upon even further inspection, I'd like to rescind my comment about your siding not looking solid. I see now that you have indeed done the full 'plate stacking' method and somehow angled those wall portions to angle the shingles. Full marks for that!

That's cool! I also wanted to add that when I saw it, it slightly reminded me of Samurai Jack cartoon. You've deffinatly inspired me to try my hand at these and revive a project I started nearly 10 years ago when I first got the Lego Studios camera. Dial-up prohibits some of my work, but at the very least, some simple MOCs would be fun. Thanks for sharing.

I have been planning a samurai/ninja moc for a while, and found this looking for some inspiration. I immediately bookmarked it. I love the sense of whimsy in the pictures. It is obvious you had some great fun making this. Great work!
