Arms Race

No, this is not about new weapon creations.

While lining up my various units of pikemen, I gave each unit it's own colored flag - I'm gonna have to do something about replacing those pink banners, though.

I stood back and looked at them. Nope, needed more. So I yanked the arms out of the sockets and color matched those, and then the legs (I need more pure yellow - nude? - legs).

Just an idle question: do you change the arms on your minifigs?

Yup. I change them all the time. If they look good normal, I'll leave them alone, but that often isn't the case.

Now legs...... that's another matter. Mainly because I have never felt the need yet. But if I felt it would look better, and I didn't have what I needed... sure I'd do it.

I find prying off legs harder than arms, so I hate doing it, but I still find myself doing it to get the right color combination.

I do pry off arms, as I'm sure we all do, though I don't like to do it. With almost all legomen (with the exeption of the DM's) the arms look just fine.
I usually hate prying them off, if only because 1 of 10 times, the torso cracks.

First - I never change legs.

Secondly, I more often find myself changing hands than whole arms. Although I do sometimes change arms, especially with town theme figs. I have only done it a couple times with castle figs though - I don't really have enough castle figs to do anything with anyway.

I do it all the time, but the torsos do crack sooner then later

Hmmmm - I just swapped out 60 torsos and not one crack. Never had it happen in fact. Difference in technique?

What technique do you use? I move the arm stright out from the body, then push on the body with my thumb, and pull the arm with my index finger.

What technique do you use? I move the arm stright out from the body, then push on the body with my thumb, and pull the arm with my index finger.

Arm straight out towards the front of the body and gently exert pressure on the end of the arm so that the arm rotates outward away from the center of the body. This way the back of the shoulder is being reinforced by the back of the body. If you start with the arm straight up, it is being rotated into the unsupported plastic below the arm.

Used the torso my parrot plays with for an experiment - 100 times taking it out and putting it back in without a crack. The arm does feel very slightly looser, but still holds it pose fine.

Trying it Barbapple's way (arm up rather than forward) I can see the pressure on the unsupported plastic beneath the arm would make a crack more likely.

I have taken arms off of a torso over a 100 times. never cracked for me. maybe it's becaise I'm specail and so is twotoniceknight?
