Jobasha's Odd Books and the Bistro Next Door (remake)

Post by Aliencat »

Hey hey,

This a remake of an old MOC: Link
That one was made two years ago so I figured Jobasha could use a new bookstore.

Jobasha's Odd Books is specialized in accounts on the occult and old writings about unexplainable magic and so forth. Jobasha will have the answer to anything science can't explain.

Meanwhile strange plans are in motion on the rooftops. Mindcorp is not involved with this.

Oh yay, all the floors open up, let's have a look inside

The ground floor of the bookstore is where Jobasha receives his new goods. Books, scripts and scrolls from all over the world, and from all eras.

If you have any questions that are bothering you, Jobasha's is the place to go: not only does Jobasha know a lot, his frequent customers are more than knowledgable as well. Aliencat, Mr. Hammersmith and Professor Neilsworth (from previous MOCs such as The Reality Dysfunction) are discussing one of Jobasha's more recent finds.

Jobasha's little apartment is above the bookstore. It's too small to fit a kitchen so he always eats next door.

In the Bistro's kitchen, Chef Micah is sampling some of his new creations.

And of course I couldn't leave out Jobasha throwing the waitor out the window, like in the old one.

Awesome update, AC! You've really turned a good MOC into a great one. I think one of my favorite details is the little shed on the roof of the bistro. Those 1x1 rounds look amazing as terracotta tiles. Of course, all the details you've packed in throughout the whole MOC are superb. I like that you've tiled over the floors now; even though that makes posing figs/furniture/etc harder, I think it looks a lot better. I think Jobasha's though could use more bookshelves. I picture shops like this just stacked to the roof with piles of old manuscripts. Also, I honestly think I preferred the roof on the old bookshop more, at least the front facade. The extra details on the back are great, but I really liked the high pointed facade and the details on it on the front before. The bistro's roof is definitely an improvement though. Also, I like the use of those 1x8 tiles for a simple garage door. That's a good low-parts usage alternative to having the real garage doors (and in more colours!) All in all, a great MOC!

Is Jobasha's books based on a bookstore in Morrowind? Also run by a cat-person I believe.

You know, I knew that name sounded familiar for some reason. There's a Jobasha's Odd Books in Vivec, run by a Khajiit.

Khajit has no words for you!
It's actually Jobasha's Rare Books in Vivec, this is my own little twist, but yes that's where I got the bookstore idea from ;)
Of course Jobasha doesn't have an actual building in Vivec, he just has 2 rooms in the merchant quarter to spread out his books in.
I have a lot of Elder Scrolls references in my MOCs, because I'm a big fan, see for example the Siege of Elsweyr, Hammerfell Castle or this Dremora Lord. Nothing taken directly from Elder Scrolls, but there's references to it that other fans pick up, like you two above :)

I don't like this version since my Janissary fig isn't there...
Hehe, just kidding mate!
It's easy to see that your skills have improved vastly over these past two years.
I especially like that red roof; looks awesome.

Great job on both buildings. Love all the little details. Did you have to cut the tubing for the rails?

Nope, set 8425 comes with 4L flex tubes. But that's only because I don't have any Bar 4Ls in dark gray or dark bluish gray, they would have done the job as well.
The ones down by the stairs I happened to have lying around in a length that fit, but I couldn't tell you what set they're from.
