*Poof!*

Here's a vignette I made of a wizard appearing in a cloud of smoke. I played around with it for a while and tried a few different things such as adding a few white random plates in but in the end I think the best effect was when I used all trans-clear. I think the trans-dark-clear would probably be even better, but I didn't have any. Putting it in front of the dark gray wall and floor helped a bit as the clear pieces tend to "absorb" some of the gray.
Anyway, let me know what you think. If you see some room for improvement or if this inspires you to make something of your own that's great!

I think this is great- i've been thinking of ways to build smoke for a while now, but the trans plates definitely solves it.

Agreed with Richard - you've got a really nice, simple, effective technique going there - good job! You haven't fallen prey to the "water explosion" that can often result

Used trans parts that have gone "frosty" could offer another variety of smoke.
I was trying to add some mist to my gold mine WIP, and this is the best solution I've seen yet, although I probably won't use it as it is too opaque - I want a more transparent mist.

That's brilliant.

Dead brill, Nanuck!
I've been tinkering with similar ideas for a larger scale cloud of mist, and while I'm not sure this approach will work in mass, I'll give this a shot!
Thanks for the idea!

Yup, really awesome and I agree that this may look best as a small cloud as too many of those plates may tend to look, well, like too many of those plates.

Excellent! I can just see him poofing in

Great effect with the trans-clear plates like that!

Yes definitely! I think one of the best parts is how you shaped those trans-clear parts. Nicely done!

Nice technique, simple, but it hits the nail.

Maybe the wizard's legs should be replaced with trans clear bricks/plates to make him a part of the 'poof!' cloud.

Oooh, very cool technique! Smoke/clouds is a hard thing to render in LEGO, and you have done it nicely!

I like! I have to get me some more trans parts for special effects.
