Volunteers Needed for a LEGO Store grand opening event

Post by JPinoy »

Hi everyone,

My name is John-Paul and I'm the Offsite Supervisor (logistics, shipments, inventory)
for the LEGO Store in Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ. (1)

Our store had its "soft opening" in early August and we've been open for over
a month now. However, we are holding our Grand Opening event on September 17th,
18th, and 19th.

We have an 8-foot Yoda Statue build event in the atrium in front of the Macy's
store (main mall entrance to Macy's). A Master Builder is coming to the event
and we need volunteers to help him run the event. There will be MANY people coming
as we have been advertising this event for over a month to all our customers.

Store employees can not be at the event as we are needed in the store for the
eventual flooding of customers.

So anyone from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or even Connecticut willing
to spend those few days volunteering for a 4 hour shift or even for the day.
Benefits include:

-4 hours for 1 day (for each day of the 3 day event) = 10% discount
-all day (whole event) for 1 day = $10 gift card and 10% discount
-all day (whole event) for 2 days = $20 gift card and 20% discount
-all day (whole event) for all 3 days of the grand opening = $60 gift card and
30% discount

Stores are open at the Garden State Plaza from 10am to 9:30pm. The mall is open
only 6-days of the week. Sunday all retailers are closed, only restaurants and
movie theaters are open.

For those of you who dont go into Chat much but have known me as a BrickLinker
since 2002... I lost my job at the bank last year, was unemployed and job hunting
non-stop for 10 months until I had a good feeling about the company who makes
the hobby I do... I walked into the West Nyack, LEGO Store and asked the manager
who I've known for a while for a job. They had no open positions, but she helped
me by directing me to a new LEGO Store opening in the Garden State Plaza, about
30mins away from West Nyack...

After a week, management's observation of my product knowledge, work ethic, enthusiasm
for sharing the LEGO hobby to both kids, teens, and even adults, knowledge of
the AFOL community and bringing in people to our wider LEGO-fan world... got
me good position.

Now those are some serious discounts. Too bad it'd cost me more in gas to drive there than I'd save in LEGO. I hope some folks in the area are able to take advantage of this one. Besides, it sounds just plain fun! LEGO all day!

I'm going to have to move away from Chattanooga TN if I ever want a LEGO brand store, aren't I?

Hehehe, that just means you have to buy more Lego doesn't it? :) A plan with no drawbacks!

While I unfortunately can't volunteer for this event as I'm stuck in Chicago, I did want to let everyone know that I HIGHLY recommend pitching in if you can. I recently assisted with the store opening at Orland Park, IL, and it was an incredible experience! Working with the Master Builder, talking to kids about LEGO, hanging out with other AFOLs I only ever see at conventions, it was two days of pure fun!

If you're in the Paramus area, show your love for the brick and volunteer!

. . . and yes, that discount is very nice
